Aliens Creek residents were
treated With a mixture business
(and pleasure when they held their
regular community development
program meeting Thursday night
i at the school house.
' Serious discussion centered
around Hufus Siler's report of the
plans for erecting the community
sign at the intersection of Aliens
Creek Road and the reports of
several of the committees.
It was decided that the commit
tee on the proposed school building
would meet with the County Hoard
of Education at the board's next
! regular session.
The lighter side of the meeting
was the musical entertainment ar
ranged by the program committee.
Carol Bumgarner and Kenneth
Muore played guitar selections,
and there was singing by the quar
tet of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Taylor,
Charles Duckett and Elwood Cald
well and the Aliens Creek Trio,
Mrs. Marry Middleton, Miss Betty
Fanner, and Mrs. Blanche Frank
lin, and soloists Evelyn and Lois
Moore.
Before C. L. Allen, who presid

Conditions being what they are
this year, tobacco farmers are go
ing to have to make fullest use of
!he resources they have.
In this connection County Aguit
Wayne Corpening made this state
ment this week with suggestions to
tobacco farmers:
With the shortage of plants, it
will be necessary that proper dis
tribution be made of the remaining
plants In the county to be able to
get all of our tobacco allotment for
the'eounty planted.
As you know, many of our Bur
ley beds were ruined with wildfire
because many of the growers failed
to follow the simple, inexpensive
control measures which were rec
ommended. However, here ai'e some sugges
tions which will help in getting
the most out of our tobacco crop
this year:
iD Measure your land belore
setting out. so as to be sure ol get
ting all of your allotment planted.
You or your neighbor can do this
yourself
' 2 ' If you have more plants
than you need, check with your
neighbors and let them have some:
or let us know, for there arc many
people In the county who need
toacco plants.
If weather conditions should be
favorable to wildfire, after plants
lroni inlected beds are set in the
' field, you may expect sonic loss
Grower having diseased plants in
, the plant bed should obtain healthy
plants elsewhere if possible
'3i I.' se recommended tobacco
fertilizer for fertilization. Use plant
bed setter in transplanting plants
from bed to field, as experiments
have shown that a better stand can
he obtained this way.
! With everyone working and co
operating together, wo think it will
; be possible to get the entire lobac-
i oo allotment for the county set out
: If you have more plants than you
need, be sure to ask your neighbor
if he can use I hem
We are sure our tobacco grow
ers will take this year s experienn
to heart and make plans lor pre
venting wildfire in the plant beds
next year.
