Mrs. Henry Francis of Haywood county, district chairman, presided and new district officers were elected as follows: Mrs. H. C. Hurst of Macon, district chairman; Mrs. Dennis Higdon of Jackson, vice, chairman; Mrs. L. B. Cooper of Swain, vice-chairman; Mrs. L. J. Cannon of Haywood, secretary and treasurer; and Mrs. Hiram Me- Cracken of Haywood, historian. The main address of the after noon session was made by Miss Iris Davenport, Woman's Editor of the Southern Agriculturist. She was introduced by Miss Ruth Cur rent, state Home Agent. Other guests included Mrs. J. S. Gray, federation vice-president and Mrs. Pauline Hotchkiss, district home agent. During the business program Mrs. Hiram McCracken reported for the Haywood Home Clubs and miss Nancy Boston reonrtert for 4-H Clubs. Among the Haywood members who served on committees were Mrs. Paul Hyatt, resolutions com mittee; Mrs. L. J. Cannon, courtesy committee; and Mrs. H. S. Harrell, nominating committee. Miss Nancy Poston acted as a page. Haywood, county was awarded the gavel for the largest attendance in rotation to miles traveled. Thir teen members of the Haywood clubs attended the meeting with Miss Elise De Lozier, assistant Haywood Home Agent. Charles Hyatt Is Promoted To Lieutenant J.G. Charles Hyatt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hyatt of Waynesville, has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant, junior grade, in the U. S. Maritime Service. His pro motion is retroactive to January 1. 1349. Lt. Hyatt, who has served with the Merchant Marines as second officer on the U.S.A.T Carroll Vic tory tor the past year, will sail this week from Leonardo, New Jersey for his 22nd trip to Europe Me is expected to come home in July to spend a 30-day leave with his parents.
