Mary Ann Massie Is Chosen County Sponsor For Ball Miss Mary Ann Massie has been -hosen to represent Haywood coun- 'y at the 17th annual Coronation Ball of the Rhododendron Royal Brigade of Guards, at the Ashe ville City Auditorium on Saturday, June 11. Miss Massie, with sixteen other iponsors from counties of Western North Carolina, will be presented :o the King and Queen of Rhodo dendron. She will also attend a tea for the Queen and sponsors to be given by the Brigade of Guards at Biltmore Forest Country Club in the afternoon, and a bulfet supper which will be given in the roof garden of the Battery Park Hotel for members of the Rhodo dendron Court, sponsors and their marshals, preceding the Corona tion Ball. She will have as marshals Charl es Way and Wingate Hannah. Miss Massie was graduated last week from the Waynesville High School where she was an honor student. This spring she was chos en to represent her school and the local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in the State Good Citizenship Contest sponsored by the D, A. R. and was awarded second place in the state. An outstanding student during her school years, she was also flutist in the High School Band and accompanist for the chorus. She was named in her class super latives as the sweetest and best personality. Miss Massie also takes an active part in affairs of the First Metho dist church of which she is a mem ber and is a Senior Girl Scout. MRS. ATKINS ATTENDS CLASS REUNION Mrs. James Atkins, Jr.. left Thursday for Spartanburg. S. C. where she attended a reunion of her class at Converse College. She went from Spartanburg to Atlanta where she is spending this week as the guest of her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ben At kins, and will . attend the com mencement exercises of Atlanta Law School, at which Mr. and Mrs. Atkins will receive diplomas. Wilson Owen, who is stationed at Fort Bragg, is here for a visit to his mother. Mrs. Cinda Owen. Mrs. Troy Wyche left Sunday to attend the graduation of her daugh ter. Miss Jane Wyche. who received a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Wo man's College in Greensboro this morning. Presbyterians To Honor Pastor At Hazelwood The women of the Hazelwood Presbyterian church will entertain at a reception in honor of Rev. Paul P. Thrower, pastor of the church, and Mrs. Thrower and their son, Bobby Thrower, in the Fellowship Hall of the church, Saturday evening, June 4, from eight to nine-thirty o'clock. The event will mark the first an niversary of the Rev. Mr. Throw er's pastorate at Hazelwood. Members and friends of the church are invited to attend. Miss Frances Williams, who is a student at Meredith College in Raleigh, has arrived to spend a week at home before attending summer school at the University of North Carolina.
