announced today there would be
no summer school session at
Waynesville Township High School
and Junior High School.
He explained the session was ,
cancelled because of an insuffi
cient registration of students last

Miss Nell Collins, daughter of
Mrs. Herbert H. Collins of Clyde,
has announced plans for her mar
riage to William Boyd Burch, son

The ceremony will titke place at
five o'clock in the afternoon, Sun
day, June 12, in the Clyde Baptist
church with the pastor, the Rev.
Dawyer D. Gross, officiating.
A program of wedding music
will be presented by Miss Peggy
McCracken, organist, and Miss
Campbell of Statesville. vocalist.
The bride will be given in mar
riage by her uncle, Zack Massey,
and will have as attendants, her
sister. Miss Linda Collins as maid
nf honor, and as bridesmaids, Miss
Clara Dotson, Miss Norma Sue I

Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Caldwell of
Clyde, have announced the mar
riage of their daughter, Miss Phyl
lis Marie Caldwell, to Charles
Davis Whitman, son oi Mr. and
Mrs. D. F. Whitman of Waynes
' ville.
The wedding took place at the
First Presbyterian church on Sat
urday, May 21, at four o'clock in
the afternoon, with the pastor, the
Rev. Malcolm R. Williamson offi
ciating at the double ring ceremony.
Only members of the two families
and a few close friends were pres
ent. The altar of the church was
decorated with ferns interspersed
with floor baskets of white gladi
Uili ;md lighted cathedral candles.
A program of wedding music was
presented by Miss Bette Hannah,
organist, and Miss Mozclle Liner,
I soloist. Prior to the ceremony Miss
j Hannah played, "To A Wild Rose,'
I by MacDowell, "Always," by Ber
i lin, "I Love Thee," by Grieg,
! "Traumeri," by Schumann and
j Love You Truly," by Bond. Miss
; Liner sang, "O Promise Be," and
"Because. The traditional wed-
1 ding marches were used and Miss
'Hannah played "Clair de Lune
while the vows were spoken.
The bride and bridegroom enter
ed the church together and there
were no attendants. The bride
! wore a white suit with navy and
white accessories and a corsage of
white orchids.
Johnny and Jimmy Whitman,
brothers of the bridegroom served
as ushers.
Immediately after the ceremony
at the church the couple left for
a wedding trip in the Eastern part
of the state. They are now resid
i ing on Richland Street in Way
nesville.
Mrs. Whitman is a graduate of
the Clyde high school and receiv
cd nurse's training at the Memorial
Mission Hospital in AsheviUe. At
! present she is on the nursing staff
i of the Haywood County Hospital
Mr. Whitman is a graduate of
: Coll Springs high school in Forest
City. He served for four years
with the Navy in the Pacific theatre
and is currently associated with his
father at Whitman's Bakery.

A demonstration on the use of

given at The Towne House, Tues
day, June 14. at 3 p.m. The event is
under the sponsorship of the Hay
wood Builder's Supply Company
and the public is invited.

Planned For Monday
The South Clyde Community De
velopment organization will have
an ice cream festival at Louisa
Chapel on Monday, June 13th at
7:30.

Mrs. Callie Messer was honored
at a dinner given Sunday by her
children in celebration ol her
sixty-third birthday anniversary
which was June f). The party came
as a surprise to the uuest of honor.
Following the serving ol dinner
a brief devotional was led by the
Rev. Mr. Fugate and speeial music
was presented by the lloglan and
Burgess quartet.
Around sixty guests attended the
event and the honoree was pre
