HOGERS Mountaineer Correspondent A chicken supper will be held at Cidbtiee-lron Duff School at 7 p. m. Saturday for the benefit of the Upper Crabtree Community Development Program. The proceed- will go into the community treasury to help finance the projects for improvement. Current plan- are to concentrate on the development of the com munity's recreational facilities This work h being pushed by the recreation committee headed by Chairman VVi ldon Sutton. Miss Medford Is Feted At Party Wednesday Miss Peggy Dee Medford, bride elect of Richard Paul Erwin, was iioiioied at a miscellaneous shower given Wednesday afternoon by her cousin, Mrs. Fred Medford of Clyde and her aunts, Mrs. Wiley Cravitord of Enka and Mrs. Grace Giles of Crabtree. The party was Held at trie home of Mis Charlie Hill, grandmother of the bride elect, in Crabtree. A color motif of pink and white was observed in the party appoint -inents and the dining table, which was covered with a lace cloth, was centered with a bowl of pink roses. Around thirty guests attended the party. Miss Medford is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Ray Medford oi Crabtree. Mr Erwin is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. Thomas E. Kruin of Bethel. Chapter Has Meeting In Hendersonville The newly organized chapter of the DiiiD'.hters of American Colon ists. 1'naka Chapter, held a lunch eon meeting Friday at Crystal Sprinus l.odHc in Laurel Park, Hendersonville. The chapter re gent, Mrs. R. N. Barber, Sr., of Waynesville, presided. This is the second chapter to be oi'Maiiiccl within the state. The name, tinaka. is the Cherokee In dian word for "The Great Smoky I Mountains." 1 The by-laws of the chapter were 'accepted and chairmen of various : committees were named. The work ! of the gioup will follow along the same line as Hie National society. Visiting officials at the meeting included Mrs. Hadden of High Point, state resent, and Mrs. J. A. Elliott of Charlotte, past state re gent. in addition to Mrs. Barber, mem bers from Waynesville who were present were Mrs. Ben Colkitt, Mrs. ,1 H. Howell, Sr., and Mrs. J. W. Killian, corresponding sec retary. Others attending were from Asheville, Weaverville, Charlotte, High Point, Brevard and Hender sonville. The next meeting will be held in Aheville. The models will be divided into junior and senior groups and will show clothes which they have made in their 4-H work The winner will be given an expense-paid trip to Raleigh to attend the 4-H Short Course, August 1 to 5. Garden Club Met Wednesday The Richland Garden Club held its June meeting Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Bonner Ray with Mrs. M. G. Stamey and Miss Nancy Kill ian as associate hostesses. Mrs. J. L. Elwood. presided dur ing the business session which was held after luncheon. The program was presented by H. H. Pressley, representative of the Coca-Cola Company, who show ed slides with a recorded lecture on Flower Arrangements.
