Waynesville Soldier
Qualifies As Clerk
Private First Class Boyce Cook
serving with the 155th Station Hos
pital in Yokohama, Japan, has qual
ified as an Army clerk.
His unit is part of the U. S.
Eighth Army.
The Waynesville soldier, son of
Mr. and Mrs A H. Cook, was in
ducted in the arm yin January,
1947. and went overseas the fol
lowing june.
He was a student at Waynesville
Junior High School.
His new clerk's classification will
help him advance under the Army's
new Career Plan which is to govern
all promotions of enlisted men and
warrant officers.

Snyder of Hazelwood was married
to Emmett Cable, son of Jake Cable
of Canton. Ohio, in a ceremony
which took place at the Calvary
Baptist church. Canton, on Friday,
June 22. at seven-thirty in the
evening. The Rev. Mr Mitchell
pronounced the vows.
The bride was attended by Mrs.
Norman Hammen as matron of
honor and Arlie D. Zinn served as
best man.
Following a wedding trip to
Hazelwood the couple will reside

Panther Creek, celebrated her
tenth birthday last Tuesday by
entertaining her Sunday School

been chosen "Miss Atlantic City of
1949" and will serve as official
hostess to this year's crop of visit
ing Miss America" contestants. The
acquisition of her present title dis
qualifies her from taking part in
the national contest to be held at

HARRY EVANS GOES TO
WALTER REID HOSPITAL
Harry Evans, Jr., who has been
confined to his home for the past
two months on account of illness,
left Friday to enter Walter Reid
Hospital, Washington, D. C, for
treatment. He was accompanied
by his wife and father.
Mr. and Mrs. Templeton Leckey
will leave tomorrow for Washing
ton, D. C. where they will visit
the former's mother, Mrs. Edith
Locher Leckey.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Prevosl and
children, Billy. Susan, Tommy, and
Ross left Sunday for a visit at Cres
cent Beach, South Carolina.

agent, was introduced by Miss
Elise DeLozier, and gove a demon
stration on "More Livable Homes."
The out-of-state farm tour was
discussed and also Farm and Home
Week, which ,will .be held in Ral
eigh August 8-11.
During the business session the
members planned their annual
August picnic meeting and worked
on the program for the coming
year.
