"1 sought the Lord, and He
heard me. and delivered me from
all my fears."
For small children this lesson
may be quite difficult, but one
way to iiitei est them is to ask of
what they are afraid. Some
would answer, "the dark"; some
"dogs," or other animals, neigh
bifclmod bullies, storms, etc.
Fathers and mothers can do
much to allay, auch fear3. They
can point out that darkness is
only absence of light, and that if
a child is afraid of it, he can
imagine he is lo6king at the
room or the outdoor! when it is
light, and that nothing is changed
except that all things are rest
ing in the peaceful darknesa;
The beauties of darkness with
perhaps the beautiful stars and
the moon sliming so softly down
on all can be used to interest
him to learn of his universe and
so banish fear
Parents can explain that most
domestic creatures are friendly
to man. and if they are treated

"The angel of the Lord en
campeth round about them that
fear Him, and delivereth them. 4
"O taste and see that the Lord
is good' blessed is the man that
trusteth in Him." ,
In Psalm 37 David counsels:
"Trust in the Lord and do good;
so shalt thou dwell in the land,
and verily thou shalt be fed.
"Cease from anger, and for
sake wrath: fret not thyself in
any wise to do evil."
In Psalms 46 we read these
comforting words which have
brought fresh trust and faith to
many,' troubled aoujs:
"God is p u r Vrefuge " a n d
strength, a very pleasant help
in trouble. Therefore will not
we fear, though the earth be re
moved, and though the mountain
be carried into the midst of the
sea;
"Though the waters thereof be
troubled, though the mountains
shake with the swellings there-,
of. Selah!
"In the day when I cried Thou'

do good." Psalm 57
answeredst me, and strengthen
edst me, with strength in my
soul.
"Though I walk in the midst
of trouble, Thou wilt revive me:
Thou shalt stretch forth Thine
hand against the wrath of mine
enemies, and Thy right hand
shall save me." '
If we would gain David's tr,ust
in God, and lean on it, and so
trusting, do our very best to do
what is right, "He will make thy,
righteousness to go forth as the
light, and thy justice as the
noonday," the psalmist says.
And, finally, in Paalm 143:8,'
David says: ."Cause me to hear
Thy loving-kindness in the morn-,
ing. for in Thee do I trust:
cause me to know the way where
in I should walk; for I lift up
my soul unto Thee "
As we recall David's troubled
and adventurous life; how he
was forced to flee from home
and hide in caves arid other lone
ly, desolate places, ih danger of
his life, while his enemy, ' King
Saul, had him hunted 'down, we
can imagine his thankfulness to
God who had been with him all
the time and bad atrengthened
him.

Discusses Origins
Of Christianity
Speaking on Origins of the Chris
tian movement, the Rev. Dr. E.
McNeill Poteat, minister of Pul'en
Memorial Baptist Church in Raj
. eigh, featured speaker at the Juna-
luska Methodist Assembly, said
that the origin of the Christian
; movement presents in essence the
: conflict between three principles
of social organization and control
I hat have determined the nature
of society from the times of its
origins.
The first type, hp said, concen
trates aulhurity in the strong in
dividual. It is exhibited in the
tribal chief or the national dictator
and assumes thai rule is best ex
ercised by one outstanding and
autonomous leaders.
"The second method of social
control," he continued, "both in
historic development and idealism
passes the authority from one man
to several. This is variously called
the oligarchical, the representative,
or the bureaucratic method of gov
ernment. "Organization, while necessary
for order, can become not only a
nuisance when it arrogates to it
self too great importance, but can
become a positive hazard to true
democratic participation.
"The third type, strong popular
participation, seems to have been
chosen as the way in which the
movement we know as the King
dom of God was projected.
"This is the meaning of Pente
cost. Here in the symbolism of
rushing wind, divided flame and
polylingual utterance, the Holy
Spirit is diffused on all nipmhers
of the Community,
Witness to the redemptive in
tentions of God was not confined
to one voice or the voice of an
apostolate.
"All became the spokesmen of
Ihe redemption wrought by Jesus
Christ. For this ministry they were
scattered abroad throughout the
Roman W'orld and the Christian
Movement becamp the first great
popular religious movement in his
tory. "This is the origin of the demo
cratic experience as we know it to
day, even in its modified forms."
