Russell, membership chairman, assisted by her commit tee composed of Mis. Viiil Smith, Mvs. Hubert Gibson, Mrs. Will Mc-d-ford, Mrs. Leo Marlel. Mrs. Ray mond Caldwell, Mrs. Howell Craw ford, and Miss Ida Jean Brown. Those eligible for Auxiliary membership are the wives, moth ers, sisters and daughters of mem bers of the American Legion, or of men who died in war service, and of veterans who have died smee dis charge. Women who served in the armed forces in either World War are eligible for both Legion and Auxiliary membership. Mr. Iviims explained at the meet ing that contributions for the equipment would he necessary only to launch Bethel's football team on its first season. After that, the school officials expected that football would be self-supporting, as it has proven to be at other schools and colleges throughout the nation. "j Mrs. Raymond Lane was elected delegate to the district meeting of the North Carolina Kederation of Women's Clubs which will be held I in Canton, on September 24 and Mis. James H. Boyd was named alternate. Mrs. Noble Garrett was appoint ed chairman of the club's project to aid in the Tuberculosis program. The following new officers as sumed their duties: Miss Louise Ballard, first vice president; Mrs. Virgil Smith, treasurer; and Mrs. William Cobb, secretary. During the social hour following the meeting refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. J. W. Killian. Mrs, John Hipps, and Mrs. Noble Garrett. Sr. Tess Massie Has Party On 7th Birthday Tess Massie celebrated her sev enth birthday with a party Sat urday afternoon at the home of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Mas sie. Guests were entertained on the lawn and a color motif of pink and green was carried out in all appointments. Decorations were pink and green paper streamers and balloons. Refreshments were served Horn a table centered wi!h a crys tal punch bowl and favors were presented' to the guests. Games were played during the allernoon and home movies were taken. Backs Hospital Issue The Waynesville unit of the North Carolina Educational Asso ciation met Thursday afternoon at the high school with Miss Alma Jackson, president, presiding. Dayton Miss Mildred Caldwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs George I. Caldwell of Waynesville, and Haroldotis Day. ton, son of Mrs Chester Lee Earr and the late Robert H. Dayton of Maryville, Tennessee, were married at the home of the bride's parents, Sunday afternoon at three o'clock The Rev. Oder Burnette of Bethel officiated. The vows were spoken before an arch which was hanked with creel cry and flanked by seven branched candelabra and floor baskets ot white gladioli and dahlias Prior to the ceremony a program of recorded music was played. The numbers included. "Because." "O Promise Me," and "Til The End of Time." The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a fall suit of elec tric blue with navy blue accesso ries and caried a bouquet centered with a purple orchid. Miss Ruby Lee Dayton, sister of the groom, was maid of honor and the bride's only attendant. She wore a grey fall suit with a cor sage of white carnations. Milburn Ballance. brother-in-law of the groom, served as best man. Mrs. Caldwell, mother of the bride, wore a. dress of moss green silk with a corsage of yellow roses and Mrs. Earr, mother of the bride groom, wore a gown of gray silk with a corsage of red roses. A reception was held immediately after the ceremony. The bride's table, covered with a lace cloth, was decorated with while roses and held a three-tiered wedding cake and a milk glass punch bowl. Mrs. Caldwell is a graduate of the Waynesville High School and now holds a position at Enka. Mr. Caldwell is a member of the Stale Highway Patrol, stationed in Haywood County. He was educated in the Robbinsville schools. The couple will reside at Lake Junaluskn. A rehearsal parly for the wed ding parly and members of the two families was given on Satur day evening with Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Smith as hosts at their home on the Soco Gap Road. The residence was decorated in the bridal mot if and the dining table bore a lace cloth centered with a wedding cake inscribed with the names of the bride and bride groom . The bride was presented an honor gilt. Federation Plans District Meeting In Canton .V , The annual meet ins of District One of the North Carolina Kedera tion of Women's Clubs will be held in Canton. Saturday. September 24. in the First Presbyterian Church. Coffee hour and registration will ! begin at 9:30 a.m. and the official program will start HO minutes lat er. Lunch will be served in the church dining room and all clubs are requested to file their reserva tions by September 20. Members of the Waynesville Woman's Club, who plan to attend the meeting are asked to contact Mrs. Raymond Lane, Mrs. J. H. Boyd, or Mrs. Frank Kinsey. Jr.. by that dale. Mrs. Ed M. Anderson, of West Jefferson, stale president of the Federation, is scheduled to deliver the principal address. Mrs. Carl Killian, Cullowhee, district presi dent, will preside. Snyder of Clyde, has en rolled in the Junior Class at Chamberlain-Hunt Military at Port Gib son, Mississippi. The Snyders have been residing in Bude, Mississippi for the past two years. Mr. Snyder, a bridge contractor, is now con structing a bridge across Homo chitta River in Franklin County. Midshipman James C. Goodin. who has been attending the Naval Preparatory College at Bainbridpe, Md., has entered the Naval Re serve Officers Training Corps at the University of North Carolina. Miss Edna Mae Burress. who has been teaching for the past few years in La Grande, Ore., is now a member of the faculty at the Hazelwood School, Miss Burress received a B.S. degree from the Eastern Oregon College of Educa tion. Miss Bebe Medlord s'pent the week-end with friends at Brenau College in Gainesville, Gn. Miss Medford was graduated from Bre nau in June. Mrs. Jack Messer has returned to her home after driving her daugh ter. Miss Jackie Sue Messer, to Decatur, da., to resume her studies at Agnes Scott College. Miss Ruth Ferguson has re turned to Trenton, N.J., after a visit to her mother, Mrs. K. H. Ferguson. She also visited in Atlantic City, Wildwood and the Poconos Moun tains. Miss Ferguson is manager of the Trenton retail store of Borden Castanea Dairy Company. Cyril Minette is a member of the sophomore class at the University of North Carolina. Miss Jean Grouser left today for Chapel Hill, where she will resume her studies at the University of North Carolina.
