Hostess Linda Sloan was hostess for 'he October meeting of the Joseph Howell Society of the Children of .he American Revolution. The following officers were in called for the coming year: junior orcsident. Linda Sloan: secretary. Lane Prevost; treasurer. Harriet Gibson: chaplain. Stanford Massie: registrar. Bety Barber: and histor ian. Patience Ray. After the installation service Mrs J Harden Howell. senior 'resident of the society, turned the meeting over to the junior pres ident, who presided. Betty Barber was in charge of the urogram and gave an enter taining reading. The CA R. Song and the National Anthem was sung by the group. Mrs. Howell thanked the mem bers for the corsage which they had presented to her at the dis trict meeting of the Daughters of die American Revolution held here in September. During the business session the program committee gave a report and read the program as outlined for the year The members were asked to bring donations to the next meet ing for a box to go to Crossnore. Mrs. Howell announced that Mrs. R. L. Prevost had been named Grandmother Chairman for the so ciety. A social hour followed the meeting. Evening Elegance Mrs. Higgins Is Hostess For Home Club Mrs. P. N. Higgins was hostess for the October meeting of the Morning Star Home Demonstra tion Club which was held on Mon day afternoon. Mrs. Gordon Sharpe presided and the devotional was led by Mrs. Higgins. Murray, Mrs. Sherrill Jami son, and Mrs. George Culbreth, who will be awarded certificates of merit for having read the honks recommended by the N'orth Caro lina Library Commission for Home Demonstration Clubs. Plans were made for a Christ mas party to be held at the home of Mrs. T. G. Murray on Decem ber 6 when the members will ex change gifts and make gift suggestions. A, Combination of silk and satin. Mrs. McCracken presided and Mrs. Ernest Medford led the devo tional. Miss Mary Cornwell, home agent, gave a demonstration on Lamp Conversion and project leaders gave reports. Mrs. McCracken. foods and nutrition loader, dis cussed her project, using as her subject, Turkey Time the Year Around. Mrs. Ernest Medford, clothing leader, gave suggestions for moth proofing material. Plans were made for an all-day meeting and covered-dish luncheon to be held on November 2, v hen the members xvill exchange gilt aprons. New members added to the club are Mrs. Jack Whitner and Mrs. Roy McCracken. Mrs. Nix Heads Bethel P-TA Mrs. M. C. Nix was elected presi dent of the Bethel Parent-Teachers Association at a recent meet ing at the Bethel School. Mrs. Harley Wells was elected first vice-president; Mrs. June Pratt, second vice-president; Mrs. James Edwards, secretary: and Mrs. R. G. Chason. treasurer. To Meet With Mrs. Green The October meeting of the Hay wood Chapter, United Daughters of the Confederacy, will be held at the home of Mrs. M. C. Green, to morrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock. The program on Southern Mu sic will be presented by Miss Nan cy Killian and Miss Margaret Stringficld and the magazine will be reviewed by Mrs. L. E. Perry. Mrs. Sam Queen will preside. Scout Troop Has Hay Ride Members of Girl Scout Troop No. 1 met Monday night for a wiener roast and hayride. The girls were accompanied by their lead ers. Mrs. William Medford and Mrs Felix Stovall, and a number of guests. The wiener roast took place at the Rock and was followed by a hayride to Soco Gap. Woman's Society To Meet Tues. The Woman's Society of Chris tian Service of the First Methodist Church will meet Tuesday at 11:311 p.m. at the church. Mrs. Bonner Ray will preside. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Worthing ton have returned from a visit to friends and relatives in Virginia. Mrs. Rogers Is Honor Guest At Family Reunion Mrs. H. N. Rogers was honored at the annual reunion of the Rogers family which was held at the huine of her daughter. Mrs. R. L. Rus sell, and Mr. Russell at .Finess Creek last Sunday. Mrs. Rogers ob served her ninety-ninth birthday on Monday. Around 150 guests attended the reunion and picnic, which was held at noon. Members of the immediate fam ily who were present in addition to Mr. and Mrs, Russell were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Justice, Mr. and Mrs. Hayden Rogers.
