Workers To
Attend Institute
Mrs. Sam L. Queen, Haywood
County welfare superintendent,
and members of her staff will
leave Sunday to attend the three
day 30th annual Public Welfare In
stitute at Raleigh.
During the Institute, which will
open Monday, Mrs. Queen will lead
a discussion on vocational rehabili
tation as a service to welfare de
partments. Going to Raleigh with her will
be Mrs. Clara F. Rippetoe, Mrs.
Wanda J. Clark, Miss Rena Cath
ey, and Mrs. Mary Jane Klopp,
child welfare worker.
Also planning to attend the In
stitute is M. C. West, a member
of the Haywood County Welfare
Board.
While away, Mrs. Queen and
Mrs. Rippetoe plan to attend the
convention of the United Daugh
ters of tTie Confederacy which willl
be held at Durham on October 13
and 14.

ent for cutting hair into a ticket
aiound the globe.
Most of tne ear, Adamson's
just a village barber. But when
ever he gets the urge, lie throws
his scissors and comb into a bag
and sets off for whatever part of
the world suits him best.
He's already travelled 14,000
miles as a ship's barber and about
600,000 miles as a hairculter on
transcontinental trains. He plans
to spend the next few months
cruising in South American waters.
Adamson insists he's really a
homebody at heart. But every now

The Honorary Tar Heels is an
organization launched by Bill
Sharpe when he was serving as
state news bureau director. On the
rolls are many prominent figures

The liog rifle shooting will be
held October 14 all day, Mr. Alex
ander announced, with a good steer
as the grand prize for the sharpest
eyed marksmen in the muzzle-loaders'
contest.
The steer will be divided among
I he winners in the different classes.
First prize for the winner among
I fie marksmen ranging from 20 to
,'!9 years of age will be the fore
quarter of the steer.
The best shots among the groups
ranging from 40 to 09 years in age
and from CO years and up will be
a hindquarter each.
