"The Promised One." was presented by members of the Youth Fellowship of the First Methodist church on Sunday night. I Dellwood To Have Christmas Programs Three Christmas programs have been planned for this week at Dell wood On Thursday night the Young People of Maggie will present a play. 'Grandpa's Christmas Tree," at Dellwood Community meeting to be held at the Dellwood Mctho- ! dist church at 7:30 o'clock. On Friday night at 7:30 o'clock a Christmas play will be given at the Dellwood Baptist church. The ihird program will he at the Methodist church Saturday at 7:30 p. m., when a pageant, "The First Christmas," will be presented. Methodist Church attended 1 The host church's combined a ' dull and youth choirs, numbering 60 voices, sang the traditional Christmas hymns and other special sacred songs. Conducing the service was the i Rev D. D. Gross. Baptist pastor, j assisted by the Rev. W. T. Medlin, I pastor of the Clyde Methodist Church. The Methodists were special ; guests at the service. They will return tbe courtesy by j having the Baptists as their guests I for Christmas services at the ; Methodist Church at 7:30 P. M. Friday. Director of the Baptist adult choir Is Jack Medford, while W. ! C. Chapman heads the youth group. Organist for the program was Mrs. E M. Green. 1 Mr. Gross gave the invocation, ! and the congregation sang "Joy I Through World" and other Christ mas numbers. j In addition to the singing by , the entire choir there were offer ings by a sextet of Alice Medford, Norma Burch. Nina Medford, Mary Sue Mann, Linden Burch, and I Carroll Price; Solos by Doris I Brown, Klnier Goodson, Mrs. Sam Rathbone. and Mrs. Or ville na.vnes; and singing by a trio of Mr. Chapman, Horace Ellis, and Sidney Haynes. A Scripture story was read by Mr. Medlin. The program closed with the congregation and choir singing "Silent Night." Kirkpatrick was in charge of the Christmas program I which was given at the December meeting of the. Waynesville Wo mans Club held Thursday after noon in the Assembly Room of the Presbyterian Church. Adm. W. N. Thomas of Lake Junaluska, retired Navy chief of chaplains, read the Christmas Story and carols were sung. Several numbers were given by a trio from the Waynesville lli;;h School Chorus, composed of Wil son Elliott, Billy Whilener. and Malcolm Clark. Mrs. John Kirk patrick was soloist and Mrs. Robert Turner and Mrs. Kirkpalrick also sang. Jimmy Galloway served as accompanist. After the musical program, Adm Thomas lold of the observance ol Christmas in other countries, cit ing the dillerences between their celebrations and those in America. Gordon Schenek, Jr., a senior at North Carolina State College, ar rived here last week-end to spend the Christmas holidays with his parents at their home on Boun dary Street. National Guard To Hold Annual Christmas Event The men of the Waynesville Heavy Tank Company, North Caro lina National Guard, and their families will hold their annual Christmas Party Thursday night at the Armory. Santa Claus will be guest of honor. He will give presents to the children, and the guardsmen and other members ol their families Capt. James M Davis, the com pany commander, will be mastei of ceremonies. Rock Hill School To Give Play On Wednesday The Rock Hill Schojnl will give a performance of "The First Christ mas" at 1 p.m. Wednesday. Everyone, particularly the par ents, is Invited to attend. Mrs. Ernest Withers is leaving tomorrow for Atlanta where she will spend Christmas with her daughter and son. Mrs. H. W. Boyd and Ernest Withers, Jr., and their families.
