House, in a speech that had both words and music, told a Hay Wood County 4-H Club Achievement Day audience Satur day morning that love and enthu siasm,' supported by patient study, are essential to success in any un dertaking. ; .; . After paying respect to the yout,h who had just sung and ad vising him to continue develop ing his fine talent, Dr. House took a little harmonica out of his pocket and gave the audience one of the solos that are familirfr to every University of North Carolina stu dent. : 7:: : Then, after playing throe old favorites, he used his harmonica playing as an illustration to sup port the points he made. He declared -he loved to play what he called this humblest of musical instruments and that, though his playing would never bring him to the heights of musical fame, it did lead him to approach the truly grestt music and made him feel he Was a part of it. Then he added that love of music alone could not have taught him to play. It takes patient study learning the "instrument. -: This, he"sald, is the third "es sential to success, the necessary accompaniment to love and enthu siasm. :. He pointed out that the Univer sity's most famous student, All America Charlie Justice, achieved his brilliant, success because the Immortal Choo Choo applied those three. essentials to football, The University administrator forecast that those same qualities which made Charlie Justice a na tional football hero would make him a success in his new field the promotion bf better health through out the state through his work with the Medical Foundation. He added that on Charlie's frei quent visits to orphanages and children's hospitals throughout North , Carolina, the youngsters were not so much Impressed by his Boy Stricken With Leukemia Doing Nicely Latest reports from Duke Hos pital yesterday indicated six-year-old Norman Lewis of Waynesville, taking the H hormone treatment for leukemia, was "doing nicely" and "holding his own." R. C. Gunn, who is directing the campaign to raise funds to pay for Norman's treatment, said he was Informed that Norman's appetite has been improving. The stricken boy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Lewis, was admit ted to Duke last Thursday to be gin the special treatment in hopes of saving his life. He- received his first injection Monday, but a specialist explained that it is usually no earlier than four to five days after the initial treatment that a patient shows any positive response. f Famous Home for Boys Boystown, located near Omaha, Nebr., now occupies over 1,000 ac res and takes care of hundreds of boys every year.
