Mrs. Ralph Prevost was hostess
of a bridge dinner at her home in
Grimball Park Thursday evening,
as a courtesy to her guest, Mrs.
Charles Burn, of Charleston, S. C,
Spring flowers were used
throughout the house in decorat
ing and the dining table was cent
ered with an arrangement of red
candles and japonica.
After the games prizes were a
warded to Mrs. Ben Sloan, who
held high score, and Mrs. White
ner Prevost, who held low. Mrs,
Burn was presented an honor gift.

was held Friday afternoon. Mrs.

Col. J. H. Howell was the guest
speaker and discussed the First
Battle of Manassas.
Other special guests were Billy
Rogers and David Felmet, eighth
grade students of the Waynesville
High School who were winners in
the annual declamation contest
sponsored by the chapter.. Billy
Rogers won first place with "The
New , South" and David - Felmet
was second with "The Death of
Stonewall Jackson."
The U. D. C. magazine was re
viewed by Mrs. Floyd Rippetoe.
During the social hour ' Ms.

headquarters reported this week.
His ship was with, units which
relieved vessels of the Sixth Task

The Waynesville sailer will be
on a four-month tour of duty in

Mrs. James E. Howell, a recent
bride, was honored at a miscel
laneous shower given Thursday af
ternoon with Mrs. R. E. Owen and
her daughter, Miss Dottie Oweh,
as hostesses at their home.
Red hearts and vases of mixed
spring flowers were used in decora
tion of the rooms and the Valen
tine motif was carried out in all
the appointments. The shower
gifts were presented to the honor
guests in a large red heart-shaped

Each guest also wrote her favor
ite recipe on a red paper heart
and presented it to the bride.

Waynesville Armory on Tuesday
night, February 14, under the joint
sponsorship of the American Le
gion Auxiliary and the Auxiliary of
Veterans of Foreign Wars.
An intermission program will
include the crowning of a Queen
of Hearts, to be chosen from twen
ty girls representing various com
munities of the county.
Eddie Hoffman and his orchestra
will' furnish the music and ad
vance tickets are being sold at
$1.23. Door tickets will be $1.50.
Proceeds will go to Veterans'
Hospitals and to Cancer Research.

Drama Sun. Night
The First Methodist church here
was filled to capacity Sunday night
for the temperance drama, "PriS'
oner At The Bar". '
Sponsored by the temperance
board of the Methodist church, the
drama was directed by Rev. F. W
Wilkinson, who also played the
part of the prisoner, charged with
the murder of his wife, while he
was drunk.
The Baptist and Presbyterian
churches cooperated for a union
service.
