The officers of the Club are: president, !grs. Francis Rogers; vice president, - Mrs. Cauley Rogers; secretary and treasurer, Mrs. Dee Clark. " The members of the club are al ways ready to help in any thing that helps the community and county. They take an active part in all community activities. ".When Haywood County started . to rait:e funds to buy the book mobile, home demonstration club members went to work to raise the quota assigned to Fines Creek. The members discussed . ways and means, It was decided o have a box supper, with cake walks, pret ty girl contest and all that goes along with a box supper. The teach ers of the Fines Creek High School volunteered to help. The box sup per was a great success with more money made than our quota for the bookmobile. In appreciation for "the help our school teachers gave us, we turned the balance of the money over to the principal of the school to help buy supplies for the school. When we see the enjoyment the people Ret from the use of the bookmobile we feel that our efforts were worth While. When any of our members are sick we (ih1 flowers nnc some times a smnll gift. If there is a death in any of our club members .family, we also send flowers as our token of sympathy. The members have improved their homes, prepared more bal anced meals for their families and received many other helps from tlfe different leaders and the In formation leaflets they have re ceived through club work. Our home demonstration agent has helped the farm homemakers more than any other person in our county and to her we say, many thanks. . Crabtree Club By MRS. C. O. PAUL ROBINSON, As we review the past fifteen years of our club's activities we can realize hist what Home Demonstra tion work has meant to the home- makers of our Communities. In February. 193.. at the home of Mrs. Mary Russell, women from Beavudam. Thickety and Hominy Communities met with the Hone Demonstration Agent, Miss Mary M. Smith and organized the club with our first officers being select ed, Mrs. II. G. Reno, president; Mrs; Mary, Russell, vice-president; Mrs. Paul Robinson, secretary and Mrs. S. B. McCraeken, treasurer. We had everything to learn, ptople, ways of doing things, and what our lessons are about. We knew only that we were striving toward our goal "better home mak lug . : The club had their first delegate to Farm and Hdme Week In Ra leigh in 1936 and of the many delegates since then, four mem bers of our club have graduated from these short courses. Throughout the fourteen years of our tlub work, we feel that our studies in foods and nutritions have been most helpful irt planning balanced meals, improving the health of our families, conserving fopdSf realizing the standards ' to reach in canning vegetables, and meats raised on the farm and how to store our food properly. In 1940 our project was better wardrobe remodeling and dry-( cleaning from a standpoint of health and economy year by "year we have learned more about Fashion and today our families are better clothed. An important part in our club work has bet-n the kitchen Im provement contest, two members of our club, Mrs. Crom E. Cole, and Mrs, Elmer Kuykendall, ' were, among the first five winners in the county. Most of the kitchens were, old-fashioned and they walked a half block to make an apple pie. while in the more efficient kitchen, walking less than the distance to the front door. Over a period of years our homes have become more livable because of increased closet and storage space, better lighting, remodeled furniture and new furniture well selected and better decorating, Poultry has been and continues to be of interest to a number of, our members. Careful planning of, our time, and lime saving devices have helped individual members to have time for such hobbies as weaving, knitting, rug-making and aluminum handicraft work. Of the twenty charter members of our club, seven are still active members, they are Mt. Paul Rob inson, Mrs. Tom, Hipps, Mrs. Crom Color 'Mrs; Harley" Wright, Mrs. Roy Robinson, Mrs. X G. Murray (Aunt Rachel) and Mrs. W..M. Wil liamson. Since January, 19.r0, ears.. Some of our former mem- new memners nave Joined bers have passed away and others i (mr C,1D and under the leadership have moved to other communities. STEVE PLEMMONS For several years there has been a general interest in Home Dem onstration Club work in our area, however, no definite steps were taken toward organization until a few months ago, As interest grew in our Community Development, program, oiir home makers became more aware of our need for a Hpme Demonstration club,. Our request for a club was, rec ognized by the new Home Dem onstration agent when she came to our county last summer so Miss Mary Cornwell, our Home Dem onstration Agent, met with a group of ladies of the Saunook Commu nity in July, 1940, to explain the Home Demonstration Club pro gram, and to discuss the possibil ities of, organizing her first new club in Haywood County. The group was very interested and met in August to form a club and elect officers. , Mrs. James R.McClure was elec ted president; Mrs. Charles Beck, vice-president; and- Mrs, Steve Plernmons, secretary and treasurer. Our club of nine charter members soon realized the importance of Home Demonstration Club work, and of the valuable helps the Ex tension Service has to offer home makers. So now, Saunook is a strong growing club with twenty four active members. Our demonstration project lead er reports, and various workshop experiences bring the. latest in formation and suggestions right into our homes. ' We are glad to be in the work and plan to do our best for our club and our community by com pleting this year one major project each, by participation in all the ac tivities of the County Council and by participating 100 in our Read ing Program whereby, we shall each profit for ourselves and our families, f T E-GOVERNORS WIDOW SUPPORTS SMITH Mrs. W. Rogers Covo Club By MRS. DAVID RILEY Tho Rogers Cove Demonstration Club was organized In February, 1948 under the direction of Miss Mary Margaret Smith, .with Mrs. Guy Fulbright as our first presi dent. At first our members were not very active, but since they have realized the values of Home Demonstration club work, we have increased our membership to twenty-two. We have made much progress in our homes by learning new and better ways to redecorate and fur nish our homes. Many other things such as: refiiushing old furniture, turning old oil lamps Into beauti ful electric lamps, remodeling old clothes and giving them the hew look, as well as learning to pre pare many appetizing and nourish ing dishes, have made us realize the value of our club. We are all indebted to our, agent, Miss Mary Cornwell for her inter est, and cooperation in teaching us these, money and time saving ways to beautify and decorate our homes and to appreciate the beauty of oor native surroundings. We extend a hearty welcome to all homemakers of Rogers Cove community to join our ' club, so they too may profit by the invalu able information and demonstra tions given to us each month. Our goal for 1950 is to exceed by far anything we. have done in the past years. ; Officers of the club are: Mrs. -Monday Af ternoou, Mav , RatcliHCovc T By MS. CARL In recent month.
