(And by the way Everett is also the Editor-in-Chief of the Technique, which Is Tech High's year book.) Mr. Rik ard, principal, gave a welcome to C.H.S. and La Rue Amos gave one from the C, H. Student Council. The welcome was responded by Arzid Sieber of Hendersonville. The officers were then recogniz ed: vice-president, Lewis Mark of Mooresville; secretary, Lorene Huffman of Hickory, and treasur er, LaRue Amos of Canton. Mack Barrett, president of the North Carolina Student Council Congress and vice-president of the Canton Student Council gave a greeting from the N.C.S.C.C. In the discussion groups the top ics were very interesting as they concerned the Student CoUhcll. The three topics discussed were entitled; "What Types of Good Worthwhile Projects May a Stu dent Council Successfully Under take?"; "How May We Secure and Retain Student Interest in rhn Ac tivities of the Student Council?"; and "How Can the Student Coun cil Function So that Each Member of the Student Body Is Made to Feel He Is An Important Part of the School?" Not only did the Student Coun cil Congress discuss business, but Crabtrco P-TA Holds Contest Tuesday Night By Mrs. Roy B. Medford (Mountaineer Correspondent) Roger McElroy and Francis San ford won Tuesday's recitation and Reclamation contest held by the Crabtree-Iron Duff Parent-Teachers Association! Roger won the declamation event, and Francis took first in the recitation. Each will receive a med al at the school's annual commence ment exercises this spring. Judging the contestants were Mrs. Clark Messer, Mrs.- Glenn Palmer, and Miss Orr, members of the faculty of Fines Creek School. In the declamation event, Boyd Fisher placed second, and Henry Earl Massle finished third. Jean Crawford was runnerup and Adeline Best placed third In the recitation. y All these received honorable mention. ' Spencer McCracken also com peted In the declamation contest, while Adeline Best, Frances Yates, Sybil Bradshaw, Doris Messer, Mar tha Ann Caldwell, and Lorine Sanford took part in the recitation contest. During the business session, the nominations and elections of of ficers of the P-TA was postponed until shortly before the opening of the new school year. The banquet and dance was held at Camp Hope Friday night. On Saturday the discussion groups continued until 12:00. The W.D.N.C.S.C.C, adjourned uhtll next year. The "Rhythm Rockers" and the Canton High School band did a swell job of keeping their guests entertained with music along with all the discussions. Yoil Can certainly tell that summer time is here . . . all of the girls either have a sunburned back, or they are as tan as shoe leather. I think the sunburn would describe most of the girls from Waynesville High who have tried to get a sun tan. One day they come to school and the skin has the creamy look but then you look the next day and you would think that red paint had been added. Francis Cove By MRS BILL HOLLINGSWORTH (Mountaineer Correspondent) Mrs. Henry Francis was honored last Saturday night by the ladies of Francis Cove, who gave her an apron shower at their suprise par ty at her home. This was their way of showing their appreciation for her kindness in helping them in the aluminum working school she has neia in ner home. Named to this visitine tsroun were tyrs. J. G. Allen, Mrs. Her man Rogers, Mrs. McKlnley Press ley, and Mrs.' Clarence Buchanan. The Stamev Cove bennle also set as their next project the cleaning of their cemetery. Next Saturday was the date for the community members to meet for this work. - Relatives and other friends of those whose graves are in the Piney Grove Cemetery are invited to take part in this important work. The work will continue through out the day, with dinner to be serv ed on the grounds. ' Everyone is Invited to come with a basket lunch. Also during the Wednesday night meeting, the residents heard re ports by the special committees on the progress attained in theif spe cific projects. The meeting, which was held at the home of Herman Rogers, was opened with a devotional by the community chairman, the Rev. V. N. Allen. The members of the community then practiced the songs they will sing at the County Song Festival. Before adjournment was call ed, the next meeting was announc ed for the Plney Grove Methodist Church on May 10. The Waynesville High Senior Banquet was one of the best sur prises that could ever happen to any one group of Seniors. The decorations were beautiful and the program was the best, but above all the dresses the girls wore were lovely. They all looked as if they had just stepped out of a store window in Paris. ' "Music Week" Is here so It's time for the St. John's Recital. Next Wednesday and Thursday night the annual Spring Recital will be presented at the St. John's Auditorium. There will be around 54 par ticipating in the Junior Recital on Wednesday, night and about 30 In the Senior Recital on Thursday night. Haywood 4-H'ers To Leave For State Camp July 10 Haywood County's 4-H Clubbers were reminded of happy days ahejfd last weekend. Assistant County Agent Joe Clitle and Assistant Home Dem onstration Agent Jean Childers sent them letters announcing the Haywood boys and girls will leave for the annual State 4-H Club camp at White Lake on July 10 for a two-week stay.
