Those elected to assist the pastor were. Sunday School: Ralph Queen, sup erintendent; Owen Murray, as sistant superintendent; Ma r t h a Cooke, general secretary; Song leader, Robert Clark; and Pianist, Norma Lou Jones. Mrs. Haynes Henson was elected Church Clerk and Treasurer, while Eugene McLemore and Jimmy Mc Lemore were elected as janitors, Tiiose chosen as ushers were; Grover Pressley, Oliver Hall. Way Mease, Jr., Woodrow Fleming and Harold , Pressley. To lead the Training Union: Welton Mease was chosen as direc tor with- Edgar Mehaffey as as sociate director. She is a bit thin at the mom ent, but with a good meal she would be a good dog, especially for children. And there Is another shepherd dog available, male, gray with quite a bit of brown, small, about seven or eight months old. If unclaimed, these dogs will be destroyed Monday, June 12. At The Depot On Monday evening, June 12, at 8 p. m. the Haywood County SPCA will hold its regular meeting at the Davis-Liner Motor show room. All new and old members are ugred to attend. There are interesting and serious matters to be brought to the attention of the membership for recommended actions-some very serious- matters, and an., organiza tion's ' recommendations are as strong and no stronger tnan me in terest of members. Plans are also afoot to have present an interesting and informative speaker, but since an acceptance has not been receiv ed at this time the Identity cannot be revealed. Miss Williams Graduates From Meredith College Frances Lorena Williams, Mere dith graduate, the daughter of Frank R. Williams, Waynesville, was awarded her A.B. degree in Home Economics, and a North Car ollna "A" grade certificate for teaching in the public schools. Miss Williams has served this year as art editor for the student magazine, the ACORN, and as pres ident of the Home Economics Club. She was one of six Meredith College seniors elected recently to membership in the American Home Economics Association. At the an nual awards night held Saturday, June 3, she was awarded the Ida Poteat art award as an outstand ing Meredith College art student (although not an art major) for the high quality and rapid develop ment of her unique style, She has also been a member of the Alpha Rho Tau Art Club, Home Economics Club, Colton English Glub, Little Theater, Sociology Club, and Philaretia. Good Turnout At White Oak Community Meet By MRS GEORGE BORING (Mountaineer Correspondent) . 1 v Poultry Meeting , To Be Held Here Friday Night the Poultry Commission of the Community Development Program Is urging all people Interested In the poultry business (especially hatching eggs) to be present for a meeting at the courthouse in Waynesville on Friday night, June 9th, at 8:00 o'clock. Arrangements have been made for representa tives of hatcheries to be present, and others who are interested in the purchasing of hatching eggs and the promotion of more flocks for hatching egg purposes. f Also, there will be shown a movie on poultry, entitled "Build ing of a Nation". . ApproxirMtely fifty members of the White Oak Community Development- Profiram gathered togeth er Saturday ninht for their regu lar meeting, and opened it in the usual manner 'vith scriptures, pray er and group singing. Mr. France Teague read the scripture and Mr. Robert Fisher led ! in prayer and group singing. A business meeting then ensued and further plans for the new community--club .-house were dis cussed, with everyone anxious to cet started. Letters regarding the hnnk mobile and ' music festival wore read and discussed. It was also voted for the women to spon sor the "eats", at the auction sale on the Ned Clark farm June 20th The money will be used to help swell our building fund. An amusing debate was then held by Mr., and Mrs. George Bon ing, the subject of which was "Why Do' Women Use Makeup?" Mr. Boring began by saying he had al wavs wondered why women wore makeup and would take the nega tive side. Mrs, Boring proceeded to take out a huge-.-mirror, rouge and lipstick, and began to daub it on thick and heavy, and then began the affirmative side by sayr lng "Well, personally, I'm not In favor of going to extremes on anything, and certainly don't be lieve in using too much makeup." When the debate was finished, just about everyone had something to add. . Games were then enjoyed by all present, and refreshments of home made cake and cold drinks were served. The next meeting will be June 17th, and the women are asked to bring sandwiches, Graham . . .
