Mrs. Henry Garner Entertains For Miss Sue Kelley Mrs. Henry Garner entertained with a shower at her home in Bethel this week honoring Miss Sue Kelley, bride elect of Jack Smith of Memphis Tenn., whose wedding will take place Saturday. The residence was decorated with mixed spring flowers. Contests and games featured the evening's entertainment. The honor guest received many beautiful and useful tifts. Bethel Students Make Tour To New Orleans . . A group of twenty-five students and faculty members of the Beth el High School returned last Sat urday from a week's tour to New Orleans. Louisiana. Making the Inn were members of the Beta Club,.. which is com posed of honor students; Mrs. Ned Carver, faculty sponsor of the club, Miss Bernice McElhannon, Mrs. Merrill Plemmons, Mrs. Joe Beverage, and Misses Clara and Fannie Howell. The trip was made by bus under the direction of Carpenter Tours of Elizabcthton, Tenn., and stops were made in several cities en route. The group visited the state capitol, the governor's mansion, and the federal penitentiary in At lanta; the Roosevelt Home in Warm Springs Ga.; the state capi tol and the home of Thomas Jef ferson in Montgomery, Alabama; and made a tour of the city of Mobile, visiting the docks and the Bankhead Tunnel, They saw the Gulf of Mexico from Gulfport, Miss., and stopped at Lake Pont chartrain before touring the city of New Orleans. Students making the trip were Jenny Huskcy, Ruby Huskey, Grace Erwin, Kathleen Cook, Eugenia Justice, Norma Bramlett. Reading Club In Full Swing With Over 100 Members l he Cherokee Indian Rending C'ub--he fifth annual vacation club sponsored by the Haywood County Library is now in full swing with more than one hundred young readers registered for mem bership. Johnny Sloan received the first feather to be placed with his name around the Indian Mural which is hanging in the Library. ttub members must read two books before receiving their feath ers, but they get a name tag and a copy of tribe laws when they ergister. Ten books, approved by the library staff, are required to become an Indian Chief and re ceive reading certificates. : Boys and girls throughout the county, from the first grade up, are invited to join the reading club through the library or the Book mobile. Members are hot required to attend meetings at any time al though special pow-pows and story hours are being planned for their entertainment. The first story hour, planned eg pBcially for children in t the flrtjt tnree grades, wiu be held Sattir day morning, at 10 o'clock, In the Children s Room at the Library, with Mrs. Raymond C. PERSONALS Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Braren and three children, Victor, Cecelia, and Dicky, who have been at Sar asota, Fla., for the past several weeks, have arrived to spend the summer at their home on Pigeon Street. Arthur "Buzz" Bourne, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Bourne of Hazel wood, has arrived home from the Miami University of Ohio to spend a couple of weeks with his parents before returning on June nth.- : .. Mr. and Mrs. George A, Brown and daughter, Betty Jo, attended the graduation exercises at Wake Forest College last Monday. Their son, Wallis, returned with them Mrs. B. R. LAST TIMES TODAY FRIDAY - SATURDAY, JUNE 9 -10 DOUBLE FEATURE $15,000m Back Pensions Awaits Union's Ex-Head CHICAGO (UP) The AFL Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen's Union wants to get in touch with Michael Donnelly to give him $15, 000 in back pensions. Patrick E. Gorman, the union's secretary-treasurer, said Donnelly, a former president of the union, was last heard from six years ago at San Francisco. Donnelly, flow in his 70's, was president of the union from 1808 to 1905. In 1904 he led the union on Its first general national strike. In a subsequent strike Donnelly was beaten, Gorman said, and the un ion was out of touch with hini from 1905 to 1916, when hq turned up at Fort 'Worth, Tex. ' ' ' So far Is is known, Gorman said, he has no living relatives.
