Johnson family. The family par
ents, daughter and three sons
have enjoyed the recreational facil
ities of this area, and put in a lot
of time doing some "fancy sleep
ing" as they explained as they re
laxed at Wayne villa Motor Court.
The Johnson family, consists of
the parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. D.
Johnson, three sons, Kenneth, bet
ter known as "Red", the twins,
Jim and Bob, and a . married
daughter, Betty, who is the wife of
Cpach Redding, line coach at
Davidson.
For the past ten years the John
son family has sung over WBT,
their hometown station In Char
lotte. Prior to that for eight years,
they performed over various other
stations. .
Their rest here was for a
strenuous round of programs in
New York. They left here Sunday
for the two-week stay in New York,
where they will appear on the "We
The People" program, and also
Arthur Godfrey's television show.
In addition to appearing on these
two shows, they will make a series
of recordings while in the city.
Their schedule,, of appearing in
"big time" hits did not seem to be
of much concern to them as they
discussed their plans on Saturday.

This is a typical group on a pack trip into the Park washing their dishes. A party of 17 are now on
such a trip into the Park, being led by Tom Alexander of Cataloochee Ranch. It takes more than
a dude to rough it like this for ten days in the Great Smokies, The party is due back this week-end.

It appeared more or less routine
for them. And why shouid it not?
Mr. and Mrs. Johnson started sing
ing long before they were married,
and then kept right on, and as the
children came along the youngsters
were added to the singing group.
The Johnsons are not only sing
ers, but composers, Each member
of the family contributes to the
ever increasing list of new songs.
They write both music and words.
My appraisal of their success
lies in their personality they
have it, and some to spare.
On the eve of the departure for
the big town, and the high spots of
the entertainment world found
them Just as composed, apparently
unconcerned, and certainly not the
least bit uppish about. the trip.
They found exactly what they
wanted here in Way nesvllle-rest
and relaxation, and this proved to
be, the ideal starting point for their
ordeal In New York.
While here they fished, motored
back in the mountains, slept some
more, attended the street dance,
the dairy parade Saturday morn
tng, and slept, and slept. This light
air "was Just right" they said.
On Saturday night they gave a
concert at the high school auditorium.
