Jesus told a parable then about

and knocked.
The friend answered, but when
the man said he wanted bread,
the friend said all his household
were in bed for the night, and M
couldn't supply the need. The
man knocked again and again,
and his friend rose up and gave
him what he asked for.

Jesus, "Ask, and it shall be given
you; seek, and ye shall find;
knock, and it shall be opened
unto you."
If a child asked his human fa
ther for bread, would the father
give him instead a stone? If he
asked for fish, would he give the
child a serpent?

We need not always ho asking
our heavenly Father for help in
our prayers. We can thank Him
for all our mercies for the kind
ness of people we meet and for
our friends; for the beautiful
world we live in, for the goodness
of human beings, the majority, in
spite of the hard-heartedness of
many, and the terrible cruelties
from which the world has suf
fered these njany years.
God is good, and His goodness
is manifest in many, many ways
in the everyday life of all peo
ples. Paul, in spite or imprison
ment and almost certain martyr
dom, thanked God in his letters
to his friends and fellow Chris
tians in the churches which he
and others had established.
"I thank God, upon every re
membrance of you," he wrote to
the church at Philippi. "Alwaja
in every prayer of mine for you
all making request with Joy.
"Being confident of this very

a good work in you will perform
