Assistant County Agent Turner Cathey said today possibly more communities probably would an nounce their selections later. The queen's court will be named Friday night, and the queen select ed ,and crowned Saturday night at the Waynesville Armory. The girls will'be presented form ally on Thursday night at the Fes tival Ball, also scheduled for the Armory. . On Wednesday night, they will participate in the feature, "March Of The Times". The community queens also will ride their community floats in the Festival parade on Friday after noon. The Rev. A. M. Wyatt officiated and burial was In Morning Star Cemetery. Surviving are the parents; one brother, Charles; the maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Char lie Gibson of Brevard. . Hazelwood P-TA To Sponsor Benefit Show The Hazelwood Parent-Teachers Association will, present a musical variety show next month to raise money for playground equipment for the Hazelwood Elementarv School. "It's a DBte." featuring a cast of more than 100 local grownuns and children and ten scenes, will be presented December 8 and 9. The first performance is sched uled for the Hazelwood School auditorium December 8, and the second, December 9. for the audi torium of Waynesville Township Hieh School. Miss Dorothy Edge of Atlanta, Ga., directing the production for the P-TA. said today that rehears als would get underway immedi ately. Handling arrangements for th sponsoring organization is Mrs. Whitener Prevost. In connection with the show, a baby contest will be stasnit w youngsters un to the age of six. The winner wilt he decided by the vote of the general public wun a penny counting as a ballot. The contest will crown a king, a queen, prince, princess dnto duchess. The boy and eirl chosen r,xr iua top honors will be crowned and presented with silver loving cups during the Christmas scene of the snow. Grant of New York City, Joe Lee Grant of South America, and Troy Grant of Marlon, and a num ber of nieces and nephews, Wells Funeral - Home, Canton, was in charge of arrangements Festival Parade To Be Colorful A colorful parade containing up to 50 gaily decorated floats will feature the Haywood County Har vest Festival program for Friday afternoon. State and national officials are scheduled to ride in the procession, which will start at 2 P. M. County Agent Wayne Corpening said Invitations had been extended to Gov. Kerr Scott, U. S. Senator Clyde R. Hoey, U. S. Rep. Monroe M. Redden, and state Treasurer Brandon Hodges, among others, to appear here. His office was awaiting confirma tion soon. Twenty-five floats are expected to be entered by the rural commun ities, and the others by merchants, industry, businessmen, local insti tutions, and civic organizations. Four bands also will march the Waynesville High School junior and senior. Mars Hill Junior College, and the Canton High School units. Making the arrangements are the parade committee of Chairman Jerry Rogers, Johnny Edwards, W, M. Cobb, Felix Stovall, Rufus Sum merrow, State Highway Patrol Cpl. Pritchard Smith, and Hazelwood Police Chief Ossle L. Sutton. Charles Isley, band director of Wavnesvllle Townshln Hioh Kehnnl. Is chairman of the band committee for the Festival. Working with him are Robert A Campbell, associate band director at Waynesville Township High School; E. N. Troutman, director of the Canton High School band, R Munch, W. A. Bradley, and W, H Massie. The committee In charge of the commercial floats Includes Chair man Joe S. Davis, Hallett Ward, Ben Phillips, Ott Ledbetter, and Francis Massie. In charge of the community floats is the committee of Mrs. C. O. Newell, chairman; Miss Mary Cornwell, Wayne Franklin, C. .D. Ketner, and T. A. Cathey. The vehicles and people in the parade will assemble on Brown Avenue at Waynesville Township High School, facing toward Hazel- wood. Floats and other entries will' en ter Brown Avenue to the assembly point from Boyd Avenue and side streets but not from the direction of Hazelwood. This precaution Is taken to pre vent the blocking of traffic.
