This Is according to the official Herd Im provement Register record releas ed by The American Guernsey Cat tle Club. Madge was a senior 3-year-old and was milked two times daily for 365 days. The highlights of the program was a debate, on the query: "North Carolina "Is Going To The Ex treme In School Consolidation." The affirmative team, R. C. Fran cis, and Frank M. Davis, won a 2 to 1 decision over their opponents, Glenn Brown, and George Stanley. Both sides Injected much humor In their discussions, and centered their facts and figures to condi tions in Haywood county. Judges were Mrs. Calvin Gatz, W. C. Allen, and Admiral W. N. Thomas. Prior to the debase, a spelling bee was staged, with Rev. Thomas F.rwin in charge. Two teams were mined, and the East won two ud from the west, with Mis. Will Kuykendall, of East Pigeon, and Mrs. Tom Rogers, of Clyde still standing when all others had miss ed. Mrs. Sara Green, of Lower Crabtree was the last to miss for her team. Others on the team with Mrs. Kuykendall, and Mrs. Rogers, in cluded: Sherrill Jamison, of Thlck ety: Clifton Terrell, upper Pigeon, Jack Fullbright, Cruso, Mrs. Weav er Sheffield, center Pigeon, Miss Sue Surrett, Beaverdam, and Kay Wood, Hominy. The oposing team was made up of Mrs. Green, Ross Lee Burgess, Saunook, Mrs. Carl Jones, Rat cliffe Cove, Mrs. Henrv Teague, White Oak, Bennie Joe Craig, Edith Milner, Iron Duff, Mrs. Rhoda Rickman, Fines Creek, and J. Krazier, accepted the position as the 7th grade teacher at Bethel School following the holi days when Mrs. White resigned to go to Detroit. Mr. Frazier completed his studies for a Master's Degree last summer at Peabody College, Nashville, Tenn., and taught at the Waynes- ville High School the Previous year. WASHINGTON The govern ment has imposed a 30-day ban on non-essential construction of ho tels, stores, banks, and other com mercial buildings lo conserve ma terials for defense. The National Production Auth ority announced that, as a general1 rule, such construction will be per muted only In "emergency cases between now and February 15. Thereafter, it said, strict curbs will be Imposed under which this rule-of-thumb will apply in auth orizing new projects: 1. They will help further the de fense program. 2. They are essential to public health, welfare or safety. - 3. They will alleviate or prevent hardship. The Order, which applies to most construction costing more than $5,000, is an extension of previous curbs on new buildings for recrea tion and amusement. It exempts projects to be con structed for the defense depart ment and the Atomic Energy Com mission as well as wholesale food establishments and wholesale sup ply facilities for fuel oil, gasoline, coal, gas distribution and pipe lines. National Exams For Teachers Set For Feb. 17 PRINCETON, N. J The Nation, al Teacher Examinations, prepared and administered annually by Edu cational Testing Service, will be given at testing ecnters through out the United States on Saturday, Ftbiiwry 17, 1951. At the one-day testing session a candidate may take the Common Examinations, which include tests in General Culture, Mental Abil ities and Basic Skills, and Profes sional Information; and one or two of nine Optional Examinations, de. signed to demonstrate mastery of subject matter to be taught. The college which a candidate is attend ing or the school system In which he is seeking employment will ad vise him whether he must offer the National Teacher Examinations and which of the tests he should take.
