Mr. and Raymond Caldwell, and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Crawford attended the third quarterly board meeting of the N. C. State Jr. Chamber of Commerce held at the Robert E. Lee Hotel in Winston-Salem on Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Robinson Is State Vive Pres ident representative for the first district, Charlie Woodard is presi dent of the local club. Dick Kimpler, who is National vice president and Harry Clark, state president, were present and special guests at the meeting were members from Alabama and Geor gia state organizations. A banquet for the group was held Sunday at the Robert E. Lee Hotel. The main feature of the", meet? ing was the discuslon of the meet ing of the State Convention to be held In the first district with Ashe ville as host club. This meeting will be held in May. Carswell Walton, became the bride of Lemuel Hardy Gibbons, son of Mrs. L. II. Gibbons and the late Mr. Gibbons of Hamlet, In a can dlelight double-ring ceremony Sat urday evening in Central Baptist Church of Miami, Florida. The Rev C. Roy Angell officiated. The altar was decorated with palms interspersed with cathedral candles and tall baskets of white gladioli and the vows were spoken before a white arch, flanked with arrangements of white gladioli. Given in marriage by her father the bride wore a gown of ivory satin and imported Alencon lace made on princess lines and fash ioned with a high neckline finish ed with a round collar and long fitted sleeves. The full skirt with wide lace panels ended in a cathed ral train and her handmade veil of Alencon lace fell from a cap of il lusion and orange blossoms. She carried her great-great grand mother's wedding handkerchief and her bouquet was of white orchids and white violets. Her only orna ment was an heirloom diamond brooch. ; Miss Caroline LaMonle of Miami was maid of honor and Mrs. Henry Burgwyn, sister of the bridegroom of Woodland, N. C. was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Betty Ogden, Mrs. Pete Williams, Mrs. Jerry Wright, Mrs. Collins Oswald, all of Miami and Mrs. Gene Rich of Orlando. Little Miss Virginia Howell, cousin of the bride, was flower girl. All the attendants wore bouffant gowns of champagne net with matching satin capes and carried houduets of natural violets. Guy Monroe of Hamlet, and Wlliliam Phlnlzy of Augusta, Ga., cousin of the bride. Mrs. Walton, mother of the bride, wore a gown of mauve Chantilly lace with a corsage of phaelanopsis orchids. Mrs. Gibbons wore tur quoise blue with a corsage of phae lanopsis orchids. The parents of the bride enter tained with a reception at the Columbus Hotel following the ceremony. After the reception the couple left for a wedding trip and upon their return will be at home In Wil son. For traveling the bride wore a three-piece suit of royal blue and yellow and hat of the same mater ial. The bride, whu has been a fre quent visitor to Waynesville vas graduated from the Cuchman School, Sullins College, and the University of North Carolina. She is a member of Pi Beta Phi. Mr. Gibbons received his A. B. and L. L. B. degrees from the Uni versity of North Carolina and was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon. Phi Beta Kappa, and Phi Delta Phi fraternities. He served as a lieu tenant in the Navy during World War II and is now a member of the law firm of Carr and Gibbons of Wilson. Manv Tibetans are nomads, their I herding yaks on the high plateaus. Mrs. J, V. Smith. Mrs. R. N. Bar ber. Mrs. Edgar 11 Goold, and Mrs. Waller Kaufman were hostesses for the social hour, which was held preceeding the meeting Refresh ments were served from a tea table which was decorated with a bowl of yellow tulios. The program was presented by Gerald Bovell of Springdale School, pianist, and Miss Mary Cornwell, Haywood County Home Demonstra tion Agent. Mr. Bovell, who was introduced by Mrs. E. J. Slanmyre, chairman of music, played, "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desire," by Bach, "Sage Brush," by llunton and "Indian Paint Brush," by llunton. Miss Cornwell was introduced by Mrs. J. E. Yountz, chairman of the American Home, and gave a sum mary of the work and accomplish ments of her department. She stat ed that North Carolina ranks sec ond in the nation in number of home demonstration clubs. A check for $121.1)0. representing funds derived from the annual li brary benefit tea, was presented to Miss Margaret Johnston, county librarian, by Mrs. Charles Kay. Miss Johnston showed an exhibit of children's books which will be purchased with the money and dis tributed lists of them to the mem bers. Mrs. R. R. Jeter made a plea for clothing to be sent to a family In Germany and requested that do nations be left at the office of Miss Pearl Johnson on Main Street. Mrs. Frank Brown announced plans for the Mental Hygiene Workshop to be held March 5. 6. and 7 in the Waynesville High School auditorium under Dr. Rob ert II. Fink. Mrs. J. R. Boyd. Mrs. L. H. In spite of rain and mud, ovr K0O people watched with Interest the many activities in process at the Home Field Day held Friday, at the Frank Davis home in Iron Duff, under the sponsorship of the Haywood County Council of Home Demonstration Clubs with the Iron Duff Club serving as hostess for the day. People watched with amazement the results obtained by George Bar ton of Greer, S. C. District Repre. sentative of the Reardon Company, who with the greatest of ease ap plied "Dramex" as a wall finish over sheet rock and obtained such a beautifully colored pastel wall that even the professionals failed I to distinguish between it and a plastered finish. He was assisted by Robert Shannon, West Virginia field representative. They also snowed ine meinons ot cementing i points in sheet rock. Simultaneously with the wall demonstration, ladles as well as! their husbands were learning thel ease of applying "Bruce Floor I Sealer'' for a durable and brant I-1 fill floor finish in their home. This demonstration on sanding and I finishing was done by Ld Fortune,' Fortune Paint and Hardware Com pany in Asheville and Roy Park- man, Parkman Hardware Campany in Waynesville. Miss Pauline Gordon, House Furnishings and Home Manage ment Specialist, North Carolina State College, Raleigh, discussed with the' visitors good home plan ning, good room arrangement, se lection of furnishings, chlce of materials, colors and eye appeal in the home. An excellent example of the effect of good finished floors was contrasted in the two bed rooms where one floor was finishes and the other was not. In the kitchen, she pointed out the time saving elements of good planning and arrangement. The utility room adjoining the kitchen was well ae-1 eepted by the ladies as being well- planned and presenting desirable features fur any farm family. Especially did she emphasize the value of color combinations and the choice of materials, colors and designs in (he drapery materials as being suitable for the specific uses to which they were placed. Furniture for the living room was placed for the day by courtesy of Garrett's Furniture Company and bedroom furniture by C. N. Allen of Hazelwood, Also assisting in this cooperative demonstration were J. C. Penny's of Asheville, who furnished berroom draperies and Duncan Upholsterers of Ashe ville, who furnished the draperies for the den. Osborne Lumber Company of Canton demonstrated the use of 'Kem-Glo" for the kitchen and bathroom walls. Recognition was given 1o living room draperies from C. K. Ray's Sons, Waynes ville; to Howard Hall of Clyde for cabinet work; to Joe and Cash Mediord of Iron Duff, who were carpenters on the job.
