and crashed into the Walker Esso Service Station. The truck rolled from the Howeli Motor Company, a block up the hill, where a load

Damage
A speeding run-away transport
truck miraculously swerved at a
busy intersection about 9:30 this
morning to miss all traffic, before
crashing into the Walker Esso sta
tion at the corner of Depot and
Haywood streets.

at the Howell Motor Company. The
driver, Oscar Kermil Lawtoti, of
Gate City, Mich., had gone inside
the motor firm to gel the delivery
sheet siened. when the clriverluss
vehicle started rolling down the

The vehicle knocked down a sign
at the Snur Station, and witnesses
said for a moment It looked as if
the truck might miss the station,
but as it struck the curb. It turned
and rammed through the plate
glass window of the station.
Clayton Walker, owner of the

some papers, and glancad up just
as the speeding vehiclo crossed the
sidewalk and crashed through (he

Go To Morocco
For Two Years
Jack M. Coin, radioman, second
class, USN, has been assigned to
two years duly at Port Lyauley,
French Morocco, with the Naval
Communication Facility. He will
report to New York on April 12.
Radioman Coin, who is here for
a two weeks leave wilh his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. R. L- Coin, has been
stationed for three years at the
Amphibious Base at Little Creek,
Virginia. He entered the Navy
January 12, 1048 and had boot
(raining at the Radioman's School
at Norfolk.

In Haywood.
The establishment of the Com
munity Development Program in
Haywood county is the most sig
nificant thing in agriculture in
the Southern Stales, Dr. J. H.
Hilton told four audiences in
his praise of the leadership set by
Haywood, as he addressed four
groups here, starting with a i.vie
group in Canton Thursday night
of 160 civic leaders.

"You have done a fine job here,"

"The agricultural and industrial
opportunities arc unlimited, and
while more agricultural progress
has been made in the past ten
years than in any prior 100 years,
