The land fpr the building site

The first pastor was the Rev.

members. The present pastor is
the Rev. Paul Taylor. His congre

church started excavating for a
basement. Two more Sunday
School rooms were added. Most of
this work was done at night. The
urge for a more adequate church
continued to make the members
work, and soon a full size basement
was completed which now takes
care of four Sunday School rooms
and has space for recreation.
About the time that the Com

under way in the county. Elizabeth

Elizabeth Chapel members are
justly proud of their place of wor

Pork Canners Urged
To Ready Pigs
Persons who plan to can pork at
the county-operated canneries this
summer were today urged to start
readying their pigs for canning.
Agricultural teachers in charge of
the canning program at each school
announced that the canneries would
close this year at Thanksgiving, so
that all pork must be canned by
that time.
Considerable damage was done
last year by freezing when thp ran.
neries remained open later in the
season.
What may well be a record in
church building was established by
members of the RatclifTe Cove Bap
tist Church in 1934. One Sunday a
farewell service was held in the
old building. Immediately the
building was torn down and the
material used in the construction
of a new one on another site, Serv
ices were held in the hew church
the very next Sunday. The church
was not entirely completed but it
was adequate for the purpose. By
the time the church was finishnH
it was paid for.
In the 54 years bf the church's
existence Sunday School services
have been held every Sundav ex
cept one. That one was during the
tiu epidemic in 1918, when the doc
tors advised closing all public
gathering places.
The Ratcliffe Cove Baptist
Church was organized in 1897 with
twenty-two charter members. Most
of them came from the church in
Waynesville. The first building was
