(Photo by Lyle HendersoiU. Dallas Holland Is Bride Of Lawrence W. Mathis Miss Dallas Holland, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin H. Holland ! of Hazelwood, became the bride of Lawrence W. Mathis, son of Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Mathis of Ruther fordton, in a candlelight service Sunday afternoon at five o'clock in the First Baptist Church here. The Rev. B. E. Wall, pastor, per formed the ceremony. The altar was banked with green ery and the vows were spoken be fore an arch entwined with Ivy and flanked with floor standards of white gladioli and ralla lilies. Seven-branched candelabra hold ing white candles were also used. A program of musie was pre sented by Miss Florrie Patrick, or ganist, and Charles Isley, soloist. Prior to the ceremony Mr. Isley sang. "I Love You Truly," and as a benediction sang "The Lord's Prayer." The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an ankle-length gown of Chant illy lace and mar quisette over white satin. Her veil of imported silk illusion was at tached to a tiara of white satin trimmed with seed pearls and she tarried a white Bible topped with a white orchid and showered with white satin streamers. Mrs. Charles Rhinehart of Mag gie, sisier or tne nrioe, was inairon of honor and wore a turquoise an kle length dress of Chantilly lace and marquisette with a heart shaped headdress of matching mar quisette and flowers. She carried a garden bouquet in pastel shades. Miss Rebecca Smith of Ashe- ville was maid of honor. Her dress was of orchid Chantilly lace and marquisette, identical In design to that of the matron of honor and she alfio wore a heart-shaped head- Hrr. and carried a garden bou- nupt. Little Miss Patricia Holland, niece of the bride, carried the ring on a white satin pillow. Her dress was of yellow marquisette, i Grady Mathis, brother of the bridegroom, was best man and Johnny Caldwell of Bryson City was an usher. The bride's mother wore a street length dress of wood violet silk with white accessories and a lav ender orchid corsage. The mother of the bridegroom wore a navy blue dress with navy : accessories and a lavender orcnia corsage. A reception was held immediat clv following the ceremony in the j home of the bride's parents. Guests Mrs. Barber Is D.A.R. Hostess Mrs. R. N. Barber. Mrs. Harry Marshall, registrar, announced the addition of a new member, Mrs. Clyde H. Hay, Jr., to the chapter. Mrs. Baroor gave an account of the D.A.R. Continental - Congress which she attended in Wa.shing- i ton, 1). C, last month. Mrs. James E. Henderson of Can ton had the program of the after noon and gave a history of the City of New Orleans. She also dis cussed various points of interest to visitors in the city. Guests at the meeting were Mrs Bovd Owen and Mrs Koy Francis. Mrs. Matney's Piano Pupils Will Give Recitals Piano pupils of Mrs. W. L. Mat ney will be presented in a recital at the East Waynesville School auditorium Wednesday night at 8 o'clock. Haielwood music students will be presented al the Hazelwood School, Friday night at 8 o'clock. Bride-Elect Is Honored At Surprise Shower , Miss Patricia McElroy, bride elect of J. B. Ledford, was given a surprise shower at her home on the Dellwood Road Friday afternoon, with Mrs. John B Plott ana Mrs. Bennle Morrow as hostesses.
