Attending Church Meetings

Cenlrr Pigeon folk have attend
ed a series of church meetings in
Uie past ten days. On (he calendar
arc the meeting 'of: the' -Methodist
Young Adult Subdistrict meeting
mid a study course of the W.S.C.S.
Past events which drew many peo
ple were the District Conference
meeting in Syha. the M.Y.K. Sub
district 'meeting, and the Training
School at Lake Junaluska.
Jlaywood County Young Adult
Subdistrict meeting will be held
Sunday, May 20 at Camp Hope.
The meeting gets under way at
2:30 with registration in charge
of Hazel Ramsey and the Young
Adults of Central -Methodist
Church, Canton. The Rev. Howell:
Coleman. Subdistrict director, will J
preside. The Rev. Thad McDonald
will speak on "Teaching Adults" !
and Rev. Horace McSwain w ill I
speak on "The Young Adult's
Place in the Church and Commun
ity". There will be a fellowship and :
recreation hour under the direc-,
tion of the Rev, Paul H. Duckwall ;
and the Young Adults of Long's
Chapel. A picnic supper will be
held at 6 o'clock. Each one is ask
ed to bring sandwiches, potato
salad, slaw, pickles, etc., with
drinks being furnished. Mrs. W. T. i
Medlin and the Young Adults of
the Clyde Church will serve the I
supper. Drinks are in charge of
Mrs. H. W. Styles and the young
Adults of the First Methodist
Church, Canton.
The worship hour is at 7 o'clock
with Paul Fowler of Morning Star
Church in charge. i
The Rev. W. Jackson Huneycutt
will be the speaker of the hour, his
subject: "The Methodist Church
in War and Peace".
Camp Hope is a nice place for
the children to play outside, so
bring them along. The ministers
ofthe county will supervise the
children's recreation. Each mem
ber of every church is cordially in
vited to attend this meeting on
Sundav.
The W.S.C.S. of Morning St al
and Long's Church will hold a joint
study course on Friday at Morn
ing Star Church. The book. "Chris
ten Vocation." will be the sub
ject. Each member is asked b
bring a covered dish. The meet
ing will convene at 10 o'clock.

Mattie Abel, Mrs. Bill Kinsland.
Plants Evergreens For
Future Security

Pittsburgh .minister thinks the
40.000 evergreen trees he has
planted will keep him in his old
age.
The Rev. Stewart P. Robinson,
assistant pastor of the First Pres
byterian Church, and his wife
planted 20.000 of the trees them
selves on a farm the couple owns
near Delhi, N. Y. The other 20,000
were planted by a professional.
Robinson hopes to, plant another j
14)0,000 evergreens in coming years. I
Although he doesn't expect to get'
rich, he says the trees are a goodj
investment for the future, He adds; J

The Methodist M.Y.F. Subdis
trict meeting was held at Fincher's
Chapel, Hyder Mountain on Mon
day night. An Interesting program
was given by Crabtree Church.
New officers were installed with
the Rev. Paul A. Duckwall of
Long's Chapel, Lake Junaluska,
voted as adult advisor. Bethel
Methodist won the banner with 27
members present.
Mrs. Helen Hyatt. Mrs. Mary
Edwards, Mrs. Marie Frady, Mrs.
Mabel Cagle, Mrs. Hazel Rollins
and Mrs. Maule Evans attended
the Training School at Long's
Chapel. Lake Junaluska, last week.
Mrs. Andrews of Battle Creek,
Mich., visited her mother, Airs.
J. 13. Medford last week. She is the
f miner Miss Ruth Medford.
Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Pipes visited
J. II. Pipes in Marion, Va., over
the week-end.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Kinsland have
remodeled their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Long have
Installed an all-electric kitchen in
their home.
Roy Morgan and son and daugh
ter. Mark and Aurclia, are visiting
relatives in Hamilton, Ohio.
