The Pressleys Are Honored By Joint Hostesses Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Pressley were honored at a party and house hold shower given Friday evening in the home of Mrs. J, T. Pressley at Cruso. Mrs. Lawrence Deaver and Mrs. Doyce Rogers were asso ciate hostesses for the event. Arrangements of spring flowers were used throughout the house in decoration and games featured the entertainment. A dessert course was served fol lowing presentation of the shower gifts to the honor guests. STORE Mary Medford Is Re-Elected Head Of Secretaries Miss Mary Medford was re-elect ed president of the Waynesville Chapter of the National Secretar ies Association at a meeting at The uoage last night. Other officers elected were Miss Mary Sue Crocker, vice president: Miss Jimmie Watts, recording sec retary; Miss Patsy Rogers, corres ponding secretary; and Miss Louise Gaddy, treasurer.. Miss Medford was named as a delegate to the National Conven tion of Secretaries to be held in Houston. Texas In June. Miss Jim mie Watts and Miss Rufina Bright were named alternates. New members welcomed were Miss Evelyn Siler, Mrs. Nancy Med ford, and Mrs. Harriet Tutwiler. During the social hour a gift was presented to Miss Clara Dotson, whose wedding will take place next month. Mrs. Patty McCracken was a guest at the meeting. ; Taylor M. Price Celebrates 77th Birthday Tavlor M. Prieo rplrhiatpH his 77th birthday with a dinner at his home in the Spring Creek section last bunday. The occasion also marked the first time in thirty vears that Mr. Price and his eight children had been together. Around sixty relatives and friends attended the dinner. Miss McElroy Is Honored At Party Miss Patricia McElrov. whose marriage to J. B. Ledford will take place tomorrow at Ft. Benning. Georgia, was honored at a buffet supper and miscellaneous shower Wednesday evening at Skyland Tea Room. Mrs. Joe Liner and Mrs. Harold Frye were hostesses for the event. Arraneements of mixed flowers were used in decoration and in formal games were played. Around seventy-five guests were invited. Mr. and Mrs. Wendell P. Furrv. who spent the 'winter in Jackson ville, Florida have arrived for the summer and opened Furry's Lodge on the Dolan Road. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Jenkins and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Miester, all of Jacksonville, Florida are guests at Furry's Lodge. eft Member of Month Mrs. Henry Garner has been chosen the "Member f the Month" for May by West Pigeon Community. W. Pigeon Member Mrs. Henry Garner 'Gets Things Done' "Put Florence Garner down for that." they say over in West Pi- geon, "she always does what she sets out to do." Because of her many abilities and her knack of getting things done, Mrs. Henry uarner has been chosen as West Pigeon's "Member of the Month". Mrs. Garner is now chairman of West Pigeon's Community Develop ment Program. She has been active in community affairs for the past eighteen years. . She worked with the Women's Society of Christian Service of the Methodist Church for many years; and (ince the organization of the missionary work in the Presbyteri an Church has devoted a crreat deal of time to that. She teaches an Intermediate Sunday School class She is past president of the Pres byterian Missionary Society. When the first Girl Scout troop was organized at Bethel, Mrs. Gar ner was one of its leaders. Mrs, Garner is an active mem ber of Sonoma Lodge No. 254. Or. der of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Garner goes fishing for re laxation from her many duties. She enjoys sewing, and likes to enter tain people. "Young people" are a hobby which benefits others as well as herself. The former Miss Florence Rus sell, Mrs. Garner is the daughter of the late J. Turner Russell and Mrs. Russell of East Street, Waynesville. Miss Dotson Is Honored At Tea Miss Clara Dotson, bride-elect of James Davis, was honored at a tea given Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. Sebe Bryson, Mrs. Charles McDarris, and Mrs. Tom Campbell, Sr, as hostesses in the home of Mrs. McDarris. The rooms were decorated with spring flowers and the tea table was covered with a lace cloth and centered with an arrangement of white iris and spirea. Guests were presented corsages which were tied with white satin ribbons mark ed with the names of the bride and bridegroom-elect. The honor guest was presented a gift of china. Assisting the hostesses were Miss Louise Francis, Mrs, Robert Miller, Mrs. Kenneth Stahl, and Mrs. Raymond Caldwell.. Around forty guests called dur ing the hours from three to five o'clock. Cops 'Nancy Kathryn (Kitty) Lee Pankey, winner of the nation-wide Nancy O contest of Al Capp's comic strip, "Ul Abner," is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. L. D. Pankey who have a summer home on Country Club Drive in Waynesville. Kitty, a 20-year-old Southern beauty of Miami, Fla, and a junior at the University of Florida was selected from a photograph that Won In the local contest sponsored by The Miami Herald. It was the same photograph that Miss Pankey had published In The Herald with the announcement of her engage ment to Frank Dawson Hall, also of Miami, whom she will wed In July. Two weeks after winning The Herald' contest she -was named Queen of the Spring Frolic at the University of Florida over a field of 32 other contestants. While a student at Ward-Belmont Junior College in Tennessee she wag named May Queen. For the past few summers, Kitty has been coming to Camp Juna luska and last year she served as counsellor In the horseback riding division. At the University of Florida she was selected as the Sweetheart of Sigma CM and also as Miss Uni versity of Florida. St. John's Music Students Are Awarded Prizes St. John's Music Department has announced the prize-winning stu dents for the past year's work in both the Junior and Senior Divi sions. In th Junior Division winners are: for regular attendance at les sons, Donald Shaw and Bonnie Siler; for most progress made, Phyllis Mease and Gail Woodard; for most pages of music memoriz ed. Dale Hall and Sara Cobb. In the Senior Division Sally Stovall and Dale Ratcliffe won the attendance prize; Nancy Francis and Ann Rector showed the great est progress and also won prizes for the most music memorized. r .
