Smartest Women
Are WACs, WAFs
Says Davenport
SSgt. W. F. Davenport, local
Army and Air Force recruiting
Sgi., savs the title "Smartest Wo
man ot the Year" is merited by
the girl who enlists as a WAC or
WAF, and he means "smartest" in
more ways than one.
Women in the service are given
all kinds of opportunities to conti
nue their education even to getting
a college degree. Not only that,
but they learn technical skills that
prepare them for interesting ca
reers in the Army and Air Force,
and WAC and WAFs work on an
equal basis with the men..
To be eligible for enlistment,
you must be a high school gradu
ate, and be between 18 and 34
years of age.
Army and Air Force pay is the
same for women as it is for men,
afid it's good, especially When you
consider that free food, clothes,
lodging and medical , and dental
care are included, Privates start
at $75, a month; and are raised to
$80 after four months of service.
Once a 'girl starts working up, she
has the chance of going to master
sergeant, with pay, as high as-$294
a month.
"Opportunities for enlistment in
the Army and Air Force are par
ticularly good right now," Sgt. Dav
enport ' said. Like the other
branches of the armed forces, the
Army and Air Force are expand
ing rapidly. Many thousands of
young women will be added by
July 1952.
"Properly qualified young wo
men," Sgt. Davenport said, "can
get more information about the
WAC and WAF by visiting the lo
cal U. S. Army and U. S. Air Force
recruiting station at Post Office
Bldg.Waynesville each Monday
