Saunook-Upper Crabtree Features Sinrtnr The visit Saturday of Saunook to Upper Crabtree might have been termed a "battle of musie. Both communities were able to furnish number of musical specialties. Mrs. C. O. Newell led group singing for Lpper Crabtree, and Bernice Sma- thers that of Saunook. Featured singers were Adeline Best, Loraine Sanford and Helen Hill Of Crabtree. who sanif a trio Betty and Jean Roland, who sang a duet; Jean Bradshaw, Jane San- iora, jean Hoiand, Annie Noland and Patricia Messer of Crabtree. An accordian solo was the contri bution of Edith McCracken of Sau nook. Other musicians were Ber- nice Smathers. Mary Evelyn Plem- mons. Arthurine Mehaffey, William Fiemmons and Kenneth Smathers Thfe softball victories were divid ed. Saunook boys defeated Upper crabtree 6-2; and Upper Crabtree girls handed a loss to Saunook girls 8-2. No victor was announced in the tractor-driving contest. Entrants were Mrs. Roy Stephens. Hehshel Stevens and Joe Sparks of Sau nook; and David Rogers. Betty Ruth Ferguson and Max Sanford of upper Crabtree. Beaverdam Hosts to Center Pigeon Second of Saturday's intercom munity field days was Center Pig eon's visit to Beaverdam. A total of 230 persons attended the event. The visitors took a silght lead over their hosts in the sport events, as the girls' softball team won 3-2 and their men's, women's and boys' borse shoe teams defeated those of Beaverdam. In the latter, Hardin Pressley and Weaver Sheffield, Mrs. James Edwards and Edith Cook, and Bobby Henderson and Jack Chason were victors. Losers were Robert Harris and Ed Bell, htella Best and Mabel Harris, and Clyde Warren and Bobby Moore. Beaverdam's victorious ringmast ers were Sue Surrett and Kate Worley, who defaeted Madeline Blaylock and Doris Pressley. The Beaverdam boys softball team de feated Center Pigeon 12-7 Tractor-driving contestants were va Jane worley, Dorris Pressley, Mrs. Wayne Stamey.
