Ann Cathey Wins Talent Contest Eleven - year mjIcJ Ann Calliey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Turner Cathey of Center Pigeon, won fust prize in the Junior division ofthe talent contest. Tuesday night, at Western Carolina Teachers College. Entrants competed from the entire western district of North Carolina. Wearing a blue evening dress. Ann sang "Alice Blue Gown'1 and another vocal solo. She was accom panied by Sol Cohen of Spring dale School. Her presentation vari ed from that of the other singers in that she danced a few ballet steps between verses, to Mr. Cohen's accompaniment. Ann is a member of the Junior 4-H Club at Bethel School. I The Rev. Claxton D. Sawyer, pas tor of the church, officiated, using the double ring ceremony. A program of wedding music was presented by Mrs. Weaver Chap man. The bride wore a beige linen dress with matching lace trim and beige lace mitts, She wore brown accessories and carried a white Bible topped with an orchid and showered with satin ribbons and baby's breath. Her only jewelry was an heirloom pin belonging to her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Delia Chapman of Asheville. Mrs. Cogdill, grandmother of the bride, wore an afternoon dress of black crepe with aqua accessories and a corsage of white carnations. The mother of the bridegroom wore a toast-colored sheer with brown accessories and a corsage of car nations.: , W: Immediately after the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the Rev. and Mrs. Claxton Saw yer, The bride's table wjs center ed with a three-tiered wedding cake topped with a miniature bride and groom. White gladioli and baby's breath with greenery were userl in decorating. Mrs. Camp is a graduate of Can ton High School and attended Gardner-Webb College. For the past few months she has been em ployed by the State Baptist Train ing Union Department as a travel ing instructor. Mr. Camp was graduated from the Waynesville High School and Is now employed at Payton Rubber Company. Following a wedding trip the couple will reside at the Hembree Apartments in Hazelwood. The wedding will be held in the Woodland Baptist Church at Med ford Farm, Sunday afternoon, Aug ust 26, at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Garnet Jameson of Canton will officiate. The bride will be given in mar riage by her father and will be at tended by the bridegroom's sister, Mrs.. DeRoy Ford, as matron of honor. Mrs. Virgil Smith. Mrs. Smith Received with the club 'officers, who are Sara Jane Garrison, Barbara Teague, Retty Howell, Pat Blalock, Barbara Mil ler, Dorothy McBiide, and Sara Brown. During the first hour Virginia Wilson directed the guests to. the dining room where' Linda Messer, and Louise McBride presided. Gail Woodard received at the dining' room door during the second hour and June Davis, Jessie Alexander and Alleen Davis poured punch. The tea table was covered with a cut-work Irish linen cloth : and had a centerpiece of pink dahlias and pink baby's breath in a milk glass bowl. Milk glass punch bowls were at either end of the table and summer flowers were used through out the rooms. Around one hundred guests call ed during the designated hours. Morning Star Home Club Has' Picnic Meeting The Morning Star Home Dem onstration Club held an all-day meeting and picnic Monday at the home of Mrs. Loranzo Smathers. A workshop on Corsage Making was held during the morning hours and a stenciling workshop was con ducted during the afternoon, : Mrs. Tom King, president, was in charge of the day's activities. The date of the September meet ing was changed to Tuesday, Sep tember 11, since the regular date falls on Labor Day, Mrs. Jack Smathers will be hostess for the meeting. Square Dance To Close Sorority Sponsored Events A square dance will be held at the Piedmont Hotel Saturday night under the sponsorship of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority. This will be the last of a series of dances sponsored by the sorority during the summer season. Music will be furnished by Marie Bell's Champion Y.M.C.A. rhythm band, featuring James Haney, sing er of mountain songs. Dancing will begin at 9 p. m. Judge and Mrs. Frank Smathers are leaving today for Atlantic City for a two weeks vacation at the Marlboro-Blenheim, Mrs. George Smathers and "two sons are arriving today for a visit at the home of Mr. Smathers' par ents, Judge and Mrs. Frank Smath ers.
