The bride is the former Miss Theresa Kazue Kukuda, daughter of
Mrs. Ryoichi Kukuda of Singapore, British Malaya and Tokyo, and
'the late Mr; Fukuda. Sgt. Hawkins is the son of Mr, and Mvs. C
'W. Hawkins of Asheville and is a brother ot Mrs. Wayne B. Med-.

marriage of Miss Theresa Kazue
Fukuda to Sergeant First Class
Julian N. Hawkins of Asheville,
The bride is the daughter of Mrs.
Ryoichi Fukuda of Singapore,
British Malaya, and Tokyo, Japan
and the late Mr. Fukuda.
Sgt. Hawkins is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. C. W. Hawkins of Ashe
ville and a brother of Mrs. Wayne
B. Medford of Medford Farm and
Mrs. James Holt of Lake Junaluska.
The civil ceremonv was Derform-
ed at the U. S. Consulate In Tokyo
on August 10, and the religious
ceremony was held at St Lull's
International Medical Center in
Tokyo, August 31.
The attendants were Corooral
and Mrs. Paul E. Hamel of the
Tokyo Army Hospital.
The bride is a graduate of the
Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus,
Singapore, and has been working
with the U. S. Army Medical Ser
vice in Tokyo since January, 194(i.
bgt. Hawkins Is a graduate of
Sand Hill School and attended
Ashevllle-Btltmore College prior
to entering the service in 1944. He
has served with the Occupation
Forces of Japan and has just com
pleted a tour of duty with the 3rd
Medical Battalion, Third Infantry
Division in Korea.
The couple expects to return to
the United States in the neat-future.

Hooper Alexander
Receives Promotion
Hooper Alexander, III has been
promoted to the rank of captain in
the Reserve Officers Training
Corps at Davidson College. He is
in command of Company A of the
R.O.T.C, battalion.
Capt. Alexander Is a member of
the senior class at Davidson and is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Hooper,
Alexander, Jr. of Waynesville.
Miss Nanette Jones left this week
for Wilmore, Kentucky where slu
ts visiting her sister, Mrs. T. Delos
Crary. Mrs. Crary and Miss Jones
will make a trip to Grand Rapids,
Michigan, returning by Franklin,
Ohio to visit another sister, Mrs.
Harry Eldridge,
Miss Margaret Johnston and Miss
Louise Ballard returned Monday
from a visit to Chaoel Hill. Miss
Johnston attended the celebration

Friday afternoon. She was assisted

winner of second place in a state
essay contest sponsored by the
State Wildlife Federation, Inc. The
contest was held last spring.
The award was made Monday
night at a banquet held by the Fed
eration iit the Battery Park Hotel
in Asheville. ,
