The annual hunting season for bear, deer, and Russian wild boar in Western North Carolina's mountains will open November 19 with hundreds of hunters particip ating according to applications al ready filed with the Wildlife Re sources Commission. There will be 47 hunts this year sponsored jointly by the U. S. Forest Service and the Wildlife Resources Commission and the deadline for filing participation applications was ' September, 22. However, there are several vacan cies still open for participation In one or two of the hunts and Inter ested persons should make applicat iton Immediately with the Wildlife Resources Commission, Raleigh, Four of the events will be Wil derness hunts held on the Plsgali National Forest Game Preserves In the xBig Creek, lower and upper Cantrell 'Creek; and Pisgah Ledge areas. These hunts have been ar ranged for persons desiring to participate under primitive condi tions and who enjoy outdoor camp ing life with plenty of exercise. Open air grates and fuel wood for cooking are provided and the hunt er must bring his own tent, stove, blankets, cooking equipment, food and other miscellaneous necessities. These are strictly "stag" parties, with the women being allowed to participate in all other hunts. On other hunts the participants must provide their own transpor tation to and from their assigned checking stations. On the four Main Hunts on Pisgah, camp grounds will be available if desired and on the three Pisgah Ledge hunts the hunters may camp at ! Stony Fork Guard Station for the 3-day hunt periods or they may J ehrek in and out each day. 1 Two of the hunts are for bow 'and arrow enthusiasts and will be jhcld on the Bent Creek drainage ; area of Pisgah Forest on Novem ber 19, 20, 21 and November 26, i 27, and 28. The bows used on these ; hunts must have a minimum pull of 45 pounds and arrows are to be : barbless. broad head or bodkin.
