Editor '--Horne Phone 462-J TO Library Board ' Discusses Plans For Service A meeting of the Haywood Coun ty Library Board was held last Tuesday with Col. J. H. Howell, chairmanpresiding. T,!ve members discussed the re qui'fjsments necessary for the li brary to continue to qualify for State Aid for the years, 1952 and 19M. , Mrs rs. I, L. liwyn, Cilenn Palmer, ,'tnd Col. Howell were named as a 'building, c6mmitt.ee to study the present needs and lo plan for fu ture 'growth, li was decided that Miss Elizabeth House, director of the library commission, would be requested to make a survey of the foiinty library service and make recommendations for the ; library improvement. Her survey will be used r as a basis for the Library's Ten-Year-Plan, which must be pre sented to the North Carolina Li brary' Commission Board by July 19172.' ;-'': v; '".;;' '-,:':..;. . .- (v'.-..' Miss Margaret Johnston, librar ian;niade a. report of the library service for the past three months slating that circulation of books for (he period exceeded the same three months of last year by 5,000. She discussed the problem of find ing sufficient time to prepare new books for the shelves with the in creased demands on the time of ; the library personnel. She stated that she is faced with a choice of securing additional library assist ant? or cutting down on the hours of bok circulation. Holidays to be observed at the Library will be December 24, 25, 26. and January 1. The Bookmobile will not onerate from December 24 until January 2. . . Announcement was made of a check for $100 received from the Harry' Futterman' Fund to be used : for purchase of recordings for the music library. . Is Speaker At Garden Club Harry Nettles, Ashevill'e nursery man, was the speaker for the De cember meeting of the Richland Garden Club held Thursday after noon In the home of Mrs. John Smathers, Sr. ;. Mr. Nettles spoke on the plant ing and care of shrubs and advised his audience to start pruning shrubs when young and to prune them every year. ." Mrs. T L. Ciwyn presided during the business hour and announced that the district director of Garden Clubs will attend the January meet ing. She also reported on the dis trict meeting held recently in Asheville. '"-.. A letter : was rend from Mrs. Woodson, Jones, county school superintendent, concerning the school bond issue and the club went on record as endorsing the school expansion program. Mrs. J.' M. Long exhibited an ar rangement of dried flowers and ex plained the process of gathering material for such arrangements. . Mrs. Rufus Siler exhibited home made Christmas candles and an nounced that she will give a dem onstration on making these candle? at the Christmas workshop of the club to be held December 19. - Mrs. R. L, Prevost will be in charge of flower arrangements for the library during the absence of Mrs. John Smathers, Sr., and the members were requested to con tinue bringing potted plants for this project. Plans were discussed for . the Holiday House Tour to be sponsor ed by the club December 18. A' this time six homes in the com. munity will be open to the public for an exhibit of Christmas decora, tions. -' The club voted to donate $1.00 per member to the F.lizabethan Garden which is to be established on Roanoke Island as a project of the State Federation of Garden Clubs. ..'
