Wavnesville Business and Professional Women'* Club held a dinner meeting Tuesday night at The Maoles. The highlights of the program was an Easter Parade of Hats in which each member wore an orig inal model fashioned of materials which are never commercially used by milliners. Miss Alma Jackson was award ed first prize for her hat created with school supplies including test papers, report card, pencils, scis sors, and a hickory switch. Miss Helen Coffee took second place with a model fashioned of copper screen decorated with spring flowers. iMiss Mary Medford won ap plause with her creation, the crown of which contained a chirp ing Easter chick. The program was presented by the Radio and News Service Com mittee composed of Miss Mary Cornwell, Mrs. P. H. Gentry, and Mrs. Kenneth Lowe. Mrs. George Craig gave the devotional. Mrs. J. K, McCracken presided during the business hour and re ports were given on the district meeting held Sunday at Montreal. The club voted to assist with the ! sale of Lilies for the Crippled Children's fund to be held here the Saturdav before Easter and Mrs. Howard Brvson" was appoint ed to serve as chairman for the event. Aleen Williams Makes College Dean's List Miss Aleen Williams has l^een included on the Dean's List at Maryville College, Maryville, Tenn. Miss Williams, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dwight Williams, is a ? i member of the freshman class. Miss Martel Announces Wedding Plans ? * I Miss Dorothy Louise Martel. , daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Mar tel. has announced the plans for; her marriage to John Lee Brown, son of Mrs. John Lee Brown of Atlanta. Long entertained with a col fee hour last Thursday j morning in her home on the Coun try Club Drive. The dining table was covered with an em broidered linen cloth and had as a centerpiece a silver bowl on jon quils. iaponica and spirea. Bride - Elect Mr. and Mrs. Kdward Glavich of Waynesville announced the en gagement of their daughter, Elsie Josephine, to John Hurley Quin ley, son of Mr. and Mrs. James W. Quinley of Pennington Gap. Va. The wedding is planned for June 26. Miss GlaVich is a graduate of Waynesville High School and at tended Woman's College of the University of North Carolina. She is now a student in the School of Nursing of the Medical College of Virginia. Mr. Quinley was graduated from the Lincoln Memorial Uni versity and is now attending the School of Dentistry of the Medical College of Virginia. Mrs. Calvin Gatz and Mrs. Wwight Williams will attend the Azalea Festival in Wilmington this week-end. Miss Caldwell Is Married To Wm. Sutton, Jr. I ? Mr. and Mrs. Luce Caldwell an [ nounce the marriage of their daughter, Miss Irene Caldwell, to William Sutton. Jr.. son of Mr. and Mrs. William Sutton of Maggie. The ceremony took place in I Greenville, S. C. on Sunday, March 22. The bride was attired in a navy blue dress with white accessories and she wore a corsage of red and white carnations. The couple will reside in New Jersey. * + * Rocky Branch Women Stage Missionary Meet The Women's Missionary Society of Rocky Branch Baptist Church met at the church at 7:30 p.m., March 24. with Mrs. Ennis Cham bers presiding. Those on the program were Mrs. Ahe Jordon. Mrs. Derry Norman, Elizabeth Mitchell, Mrs. Ray Mc Clure, and Mrs. Frank Bumgarner. In Washington, D. C. Mrs. Erwin Is Hostess For Cecil Club Cecil Home Demonstration Club met Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Thomas Erwin. with Mrs J. E. Burnett presiding. Mrs W. H. Hargrove gave the devotion al. Welcome was extended to Mrs' Frank Mease and Mrs. Cecil Mur ray, members of the Center Pi geon Club, who were guests. The club made plans for a radio j program in observance of Nation al Home Demonstration Week with the following committee: Mrs. James Reeves, Mrs. Grover War ren and Mrs. Alonzo Warren. A report was given on the Swed ish Darning workshop held March 4, at the home of Mrs. J. E. Burn ett. Plans were made for a nylon I corsage workshop to be held April 1 at the home of Mrs. J. H. Reeves with Mrs. Murray, Center Pigeon, in charge. A report on the County Council meeting was given by Mrs. J. E. Burnett. Mrs. W. if. Hargrove gave the garden leader's report with suggestions for a garden fer tilization program. Mrs. Ken Browning, clothing leader, discussed work clothes for the homemaker. The demonstration on Clothing was given by Miss Mary Cornwell. ? * ? Mr. and Mrs. Eric Clauson ar rived yesterday from St. Peters burg, Fla., to snend two weeks at their summer home here before sailing for Europe. They were ac companied by their little grand daughter.
