Canton 1948 Graduates Will Gather May 30 The 1948 graduating class of Canton High School will have its reunion at the Canton Playground on May 30, Members of the class, their hus bands and wives, and their children will gather in the late afternoon. Miss Watts is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G C. Watts of Can ton and is employed as a secretary at the Champion Paper and Fibre Company. She is a charter member of the local organization and has held a number of offices. * * * Mrs. Edith Eller of Henderson ville and Rradenton, Fla., was a weekend guest of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Kinball. Senior Banquet Has Coronation I Theme At Hotel "Hie anaual senior banquet of the Wayaesvilel High School was held at Balsam Mountain Springs Hotel Friday evening with around one hundred and Afty seniors and mem bers of the faculty attending. A coronation theme was carried out and decorations were in ma roon and grey, the class colors. Paper streamers were hung across the celling and the walls were dec orated with silver shields'bearing the school symbol. Miss Mary Lou Ferguson was crowned class queen and Teddy Owen was crowned king in the highlight event of the evening. A throne was placed beneath an arch entwined with ivy and flanked by branched candelabra. The class mascots. Neil Ann Webb and Gary Brooks, served as crown bearers. The Rev. James Coleman was the guest speaker and was introduced by Aaron Gibson, class president. Entertainment was furnished ny junior class representatives, includ ing Sylvia Newell, Linda Wp'?h, Jeanne Bradley, Louise McBride, Elizabeth Watkins, Jack Swanger, Harold McClure, Jimmy Frady, [ John Calhoun, and Tom Cogdlll. Aaron Gibson gave a toast to the faculty to which Miss Margaret Terrell responded and M. H. Bowles, school superintendent, gave the farewell address. Special guests were Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Bowles, Mr. and Mrs. Carleton Weatherby, Mrs. L. M. Richeson, and other faculty mem- i bers. Secretaries Will Observe National Week, 24th-30th I Mrs. Swafford Is Speaker For Woman's Club Mrs. Noah Swafford, district president of Federated Women's Clubs, was a guest at a meeting of the Waynesville Woman's Club Thursday afternoon in the dining room of the First Methodist t Church. Mrs. Swafford gave a report of tile state convention of the Federa tion held at Wrightsvilie Beach. Other guests on the program were Miss Florrie Patrick and Miss Sylvia Newell, Waynesville High School juniors. Miss Patrick gave the reading with which she won a recent contest sponsored by the club for girls in the high school, and Miss Newell played a group of piano numbers. Mrs. Raymond Lane, president, presided and officers were installed for the coming year. Those install ed were Mrs. Charles Ray, treasur er, and Mrs. Joe Liner, secretary, re-elected; and Mrs. R. R. Jeter, wrtio succeeds Miss Margaret John ston as first vice-president. Other officers who will continue their duties are Mrs. Lane, Mrs. J. Har den Howell, 2nd vice-president; and Mrs. C. F. Kirkpatrick, 3rd vice-president. The new officers were presented corsages made by Mrs. J. V. Smith. Hostesses were Mrs. R. R. Jeter, Mrs. J. V. Smith, Mrs. R. C. Lane, and Mrs. Joe Stanelli. ** * Mayor J. H. Way has issued a proclamation designating the week of May 24-30 as National Secre taries Week, "in recognition of the vital role the members of this pro fession portray in the life of the nation." ' The proclamation further sets aside Wednesday. May 27, as Sec retaries Day and requests that business men throughout the city remember their secretaries that day. The week is being observed by secretaries throughout the nation with special programs and features. Miss Mary Medford is serving as chairman of the local observance, assisted by Mrs. Patsy Underwood and Miss Joy Woody. The chapter plans to honor, not only the mem bers of the organization, but all secretaries who are rendering competent services in every field of business and industry. Special radio programs, in the form of panel discussions, will be presented over Radio Station WHCC Thursday and Friday nights of this week from 7:15 to 7:30 o'clock. Members of the Waynesville chapter who will participate in these broadcasts are Mrs. Harriet Tutwiter, Miss Louise Gaddy, Miss Betty Jo Crocker, Miss Evelyn Sil er, Mrs. Patsy Underwood, Miss Mary Medford, and Mrs. Louise Stahl, president. As another special feature of the week's observance the Secretaries have arranged a wintiow display.at Garrett's Furniture Store. Secretaries Of County Agents To Meet Here An tall-day meeting of secre taries of farm and home agents in the seventeen counties of the Western District will be held Wed nesday at the Court House here. Luncheon will be at The Towne House. The meeting, by coincidence, falls on National Secretaries Day, which is being observed with spe cial activities by the local chapter of the National Secretaries Asso ciation. Two Waynesville members of the Secretaries Association will attend from the county agents' offices. They are Miss Mary Medford, who will give a lS-minute talk on Ex tension Secretaries, and Mrs. Har riet Tutwiler. Miss Rowena Dakin, administra tive assistant, and Miss Maude K.
