For many years, Labor Day has served to mark the
end of summer. Yet originally, it was set aside by the
majority of the States in the Union as a day of parades,
festivities in the interest of labor and laboring men and
women.
We pause to acknowledge the part which the work
ing people play in every phase of American life today,
and the valuable contribution they add in helping
make this a better world in which to live.
