District B and PW Meeting To Be Held In Waynesville An over-night meeting of Dis trict 1 of the North Carolina Fed eration of Business and Profession al Women's Clubs will be held at the Porkway Knoll here, opening at 4 p.m. Saturday. Miss Irene Beaudin of Spruce Pine, district director, will preside. Among the distinguished guests will be Mrs. Lucy Rhodes Duncan, state president, and Mrs. Ruby Blythe of Rocky Mount, 1st state vice president. The Waynesville club will serve as the hostess group and Miss Margaret John ston, president, will make the ad dress of welcome. Mrs. Bylthe will conduct a work shop on program co-ordination Saturday afternoon and a problem clinic will be led by Mrs. Edith Alley Saturday night. The work shops will be followed by a skit by members of the Waynesville club. Sunday morning'the visitors will attend the church of their choice after which luncheon will be serv ed at the Parkway Knoll. An address by Mrs. Duncan will feature the meeting Sunday after noon and a business session will be ^ield. Mrs. Howard Ford of Spruce Pine is district secretary. * * * Music Club Postpones First Fall Meeting The first fall meeting of the Waynesville Music Club has been postponed from September 15 to September 22. The meeting will be held in the home of Mrs. George Bischoff at 8 p.m. Mrs. Henry Foy will be in charge of the program. ? ? * MISS GIBSON AT HOME Miss Esther Mae Gibson is con valescing at her home after under going surgery at Bowman Gray fiospital, -WMMfOn - Salem. Miss Gibson returned last week. * ? ? Mies Mattie Sue Medford, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Cash Medford, left today to enter the freshman class at Bob Jones University in Gre?>bville, S. C. * ? * Stanford Massie left this morn ing for Durham where he will en ter the freshman class at Duke University. He was accompanied to Durham by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Massie. I Lakeside Club Meets With Mrs. Joe Davis The Lakeside Home Demonstra tion Club met Tuesday night in the home of Mrs. Joe Davis with Mrs. Wayne Franklin as co-hostess. Miss Kate Phillips, president, was in charge of the business session. Mrs. Ed Giavich gave the devotion al. Mrs. Herbert Smalley, chairman of the Achievement Day committee, reported on the progress being made toward the Achievement Day ^hibit. Miss Mary Cornwell demonstrat ed the preparation of three fruit dishes in her demonstration on "Fruits to Top Your Meals". Fol lowing the 'demonstration the host esses served strawberry shortcake and coffee. The October meeting will be In the REA Kitchen. The club also made plans for an extra meeting to be held September 29 at the home of Mrs. Claude Woodard at which members will give book re ports. * * * Miss Rowena Robinson, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy A. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Noland of Waynesville. ? * * Miss Doris Rollins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Rollins of Can ton, Route 3. has enrolled in the freshman class at Berea College, Berea, Ky. ? * * i*-J}ewain Crawfowk.son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace Crawford of Waynes ville has entered Warren Wilson Junior College where he is a mem ber of the freshman class. * * * Miss Ann Coman Crawford, daughter of Mrs. Walter Crawford, left yesterday to enter the fresh man class at Woman's College, Greensboro. * * * Miss Patsy Blalock has enrolled in the freshman class at Woman's College. Boy Scouts ? Make 38-Mile Weekend Hike A group of thirteen Boy Scouts of the Hazel wood Troop accom panied by three adults completed a 38-mile hike on the Appalachian Trail to Davenport Gap Monday afternoon. The group left Clingman's Dome Saturday afternoon and spent that night at Hughes Ridge Shelter. Sunday night was spent at Cosby Knob Shelter and the trip to Dav enport Gap completed the next day. With the lioys were Rudolph Carsweil. Scoutmaster, Boyce Pow ers, assistant Scoutmaster, and Sam Lane, troop committeeman. For part of the group, the hike represented the completion of the 72-mile trip from Fontana Dam to Davenport Gap, the first 38 miles having been covered in a hike last November. In this number are the three adult leaders and Carey Arrington, Johnny tarswell, John ny Wright, Sammy Lane, Charles .Robinson, Steve Kent, and Billy McElroy. Others who made the weekend trip were Bobby Ballance, Mike Byrd, Bruce Davis. Paul George, Billy George, and Dan Cross. * ? ? Classes will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The place of meeting has not been announced but all those in terested in attending the course may contact Mrs. Barber at GLen dale ti-4992. * * * Hazelwood PTA To Meet Monday The Parent Teacher Association of the Hazelwood School will hold its first meeting of the year Mon day night at 7:30 o'clock. Following a short business ses sion, with Mrs. Bill Prevost, pre siding, a social hour will be held and refreshments served. * * * Beta Sigma Phi Will Meet Tonight The first regular fall meeting of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority will be held in the commissioner's room at the Court House tonight at 7:30 o'clock. Mrs. Charles Edwards will pre side. * Mrs. Robert Riley and small son, D&vid ,of Atlanta are visiting the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Tuttle, in their home on Auburn Road. Mr. Riley accompanied his family to Waynesville for the week end. * * * Charles Messer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Messer left today to en ter the freshman class at Duke University. * * * Wilburn Davis has entered the freshman class at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Davis. * * * J. Malcolm Clarke, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Clarke of Hazel wood, has entered the freshman class at Mars Hill College. ? * * Mrs. Aaron Hyatt left last week for Cocoa, Fla., to join her hus band, who is stationed at Patrick Air Force Base. She was accom panied by her brother, Mark Rog ers, who has returned home. ? * * Miss Kathryn Hyatt has returned to Raleigh after spending the week end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Hyatt. Miss Hyatt has a secretarial position with the Feder al Probation Department. * ? ? * James Roy Parton has enrolled in the freshman class at Mars Hill College. ? ? * Miss Bette Hannah left today for Raleigh where she will attend the Debutante Ball and other social events planned for the state's debutantes. Miss Hannah was pre sented at the 19al Ball. She will be accompanied to Raleigh by her mother, Mrs. William T. Hannah, and they will be guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Johnson. Practical Nurses Have Meeting In Asheville Division One of the Licensed Practical Nurses Association of North Carolina, Inc., celebrated its first anniversary at a meeting Wed nesday night in the Tropical Room of the Vanderbilt Hotel in Ashe ville. Sister Mary James of St. Jos eph's Hospital was the speaker and Mrs. Lato of the First Christian Church, Asheville, conducted the devotions. The program also featured a film on the pre-school for handi capped children which is held at the Asheville Orthopedic Home. The film was shown by representa tives of the Asheville Junior League. Mrs. Lura Davis of Waynesville, district president, conducted the meeting. Following the program a social hour was held and a birthday cake served with other refreshments. Eighteen Western North Carolina counties were represented. ? ? ? Mrs. Walter Marting and her daughter. Miss Alice Marting, of Cincinnati, are expected to arrive tomorrow for a visit with the form er's son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Baermann. ? * ? Miss Elaine Francis left Sunday for Greensboro where she Is at tending a pre-school conference at Woman's College as chairman of plans for student forums to be held during the coming year. Miss Fran cis is a member of the senior class at the college and is majoring in laboratory technology. She has been empolyed with the Haywood County Health Department during the summer vacation. * * ? Miss Grace Blanton of Hazelwood has returned to Mars Hill College after a visit to her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Blanton. Mr. Breese. who has been manager of the Richland Finance Company here, has accepted a position with the Auto Finance Company with head quarters in Greensboro. Upper Crabtree Club Has September Meeting The Upper Crabtree Home Dem onstration Club met Tuesday at the home of Mrs. Matt Davis. Miss Sarah*James, president, was in charge of the meeting and Mrs. Kay Best gave the devotional. Leaders reports were given on Frozen Foods by Mrs. Casips Rog ers and Family Life by Mrs. Ray Best.
