The Grade Mothers of Lake
Junaluska School will hold a sale
of homemade articles and food
Saturday. December 5, from 9:00
to 12:00 a.m. in front of Belk's
Department Store in Waynesville.
The ladies will offer homemade
candy, cakes, and aprons. The
money is to be used for curtains
for the classrooms and books for
the library.

The Fines Creek Senior 4-H Club'
met November 24 in the school
library. Gene Wilson Cesser, pres
ident, was in charge of the meet
ing. Bernard Ferguson, State win
ner In the tobacco project, was rec
ognized by the club. Novella Rec
tor, song leader, led the group in
some songs.
The girls had a demonstration
on "Crafts" and ideas for gifts.
The boys received their project rec
ord books and studied how to All
them out. The club adjourned by
repeating the motto: "To Make the
Best Better".

lVa cups pumpkin or squash V? teaspoon mace
1 cup milk Va teaspoon salt
Va cup sugar 2 eggs
1 teaspoon cinnamon 2 tablespoons butter
V2 teaspoon allspice Pastry
Heat the pumpkin or squash, milk, sugar, spices, and salt in double
boiler; add the beaten eggs and butter and mix well. Pour the hot
filling into a deep baked pastry shell and bake in a moderalte oven
(350 degrees) about 30 minutes, or until filling sets.

The Junior 4-H Club of the
Fines Creek School' held its
monthly meeting Friday, Novem
ber 20lh. Tommy Davis, vice pres
ident, was in charge of the meet
ing. The secretary read the minutes
of the last meeting.
A program was given by some of
the members of the club. Then the
meeting was turned over to Miss
Jean Childers, asst. home agent,
and Mr, Cecil Wells, asst. farm
agent.
Miss Childers showed the 4-H
girls how to make several different
gifts for Christmas.
The boys received their record
books for the coming year. The
meeting was closed by repeating
the club pledge.

ties competing for a total of 91,150
in prize money In the annual WNC
Kural Community Development
contest, whose winners will be an
nounced Saturday.
The awards will be disclosed at
2 p.m. Saturday, during a program
at tne Battery Park Hotel.
Five hundred dollars will go to
the first-place winner; $300 will be
awarded for second place; $100 for
third place, and 550 for fourth and
tilth places.
Judges for the contest have been
Miss Elsie Garrett, McDowell Coun
ty home demonstration agent; Neal
Bolton, manager of the agriculture
and highway department of the
Winston-Salem Chamber of Com
merce, and Dr. S. C. Mayo, rural
sociologist from N. C. State College.
In 1951, Upper Crabtree com
munity captured first place in West
ern Carolina, while Beaverdam was
fifth. Last year White Oak placed
fourth, while Allen's Creek tied for
: fifth.

lisher of the Tupelo, Miss. Daily
Journal, and a pioneer in commun
ity development work In the South.
