William Warren Kilby, 44, con
struction worker, died suddenly
Sunday morning at Boone.
He was the husband of Mrs.
Evelyn Smathers Kiiby, formerly
of Waynesville, Koute 1.
Funeral services were held Wed
nesday atternoon in the home of
Mrs. Kilbv's parents, Mr. and Mrs
C. S. Smathers, on Koute 1. Way
nesville. The Hev. C. L. Allen of
ficiated and burial was in the Ked
Bank Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Luke Hodges,
Green Smith, Joe Lane, Walter
Filer, Boyd Miller, and Grant Mil-1
ler.
Surviving, in addition to the
widow, are the mother. Mrs. Et
ta Kilby of Purlear, N. C.. and
four sisters. Miss Martha Kilby of
Purlear, Miss Mildred Kilby of
Winston '.'Salem, Mrs. L. K. Myers
of Jonesville, and Mrs. Grayson
Parsons of North Wilkesboro.
Arrangements were under the
direction of Garrett Funeral

IMOGFNK LAWS
Imogene Laws, two months old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clinton
Laws. Jr., of the Burnelte Cove
section near Canton, died Mon
day night in the Haywood County
hospital following a brief illness
Funeral services were held in
the home at 10 a.m. Wednesday
with the Rev. Paul Grogan officiat
ing. Burial was in Bryson City.
Surviving in addition to the par
ents are two brothers. Edward and
Bobbie; a sister. Pauline, all of the
home; and the paternal grandpar
ents. Mf. and Mrs. Clinton Laws,
Sr., of Lvnwood.

Farmers in Fines Creek are very
inueh pleased to see the nice
spring-like weather. Some are al
ready plowing their ground for
1 another crop and others are tak
ing advantage of gathering in the
corn grown last year while the
ground is dry enough to haul over.
Glenn Ferguson has recently
purchased a new power saw. Also
Davis Price has bought a new
truck.
The Indian hall players from i
Cherokee were guests for supper
last Friday night of our Fines
Creek lunch room. Supper was
served by Mrs. Fred Brown and
Mis. Claude Clark. lunchroom
workers, with the help of the girls

their guests Sunday. Mr. and Mrs.
