During the business session, plans were made for a radio program during National 4-11 Club Week. Each boy was given a soil I test box to test soil. Slight Damage Done To Car On Highway 19-A A 1949 Chevrolet, owned and driven by Herbert Gibson. Jr., was damaged about $150 "early today, when hit from the baek by a traJlor-tractor. The accident oc curred at thy intersection of the Francis Cove road and Highway 19-A. No one was injured. Gibson bad stopped on the highway to let a passenger out. when the other ve hicle coming up from behind could not stop in time to avoid the acci dent. Canton Man Mechanic With Army In Korea Cpl. George E. Cupe, Canton, is now stationed in Korea with the l'Jfith Field Artillery Battalion's Service Battery, which is under going post-truce training with X Corps. Corporal Cupe, whose parents. I The young soldier issued two checks for $42 each, and two others for $14 each, The soldier was arrested by Cpl. Prltchard Smith, who saw Fie driv ing a car between here and Can ton. Ferguson, and bond was set at $300 on each check Bethel PTA Hold Program Based On Founder's Day The Bethel School Parent-Teach er Association observed founders' Day in the school auditorium Thursday with Tom Leatherwood, chairman of the Haywood County Board of Education, as guest speaker. Past presidents attending were Mrs. H. U, Chason, Mrs. Paul Hyatt, Mrs. it. O. Kelly, Mrs. James heeves. Mrs. Alexander Shuiuolis, and Mrs. Hugh K. Ter rell. They weer introduced by Mrs. Jack P. McCracken, president. Lealhcrwood discussed activities of tne school board and told the group that Bethel's new primary plant now under construction should be ready for occupancy by the beginning of the 1954-55 term. Mrs. L. B. George was in charge of the program which included a talk by C. C. Poindexter, princi pal; music by a school quartet composed of Iva Lee Bumgarner, Emma Sue lluskey, Pauline Shep herd and Rosemary West; and the awarding of attendance banner to Mrs. Glover Davis' first grade room. Refreshments were served by the seventh grade mothers. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Taylor, live in Canton, entered the Army in July 1952 and received training at Fort Jackson, S. C., before join ing the battalion as a track and wheel vehicle mechanic in Janu ary 1953. A member of Moose Club 515, he was formerly employed by the Champion Paper and Fibre Company in Canton.
