Crabtree Baptist Church To Mark 140th Anniversary By MRS MILLARD FERGUSOl* Community Reporter On Sunday the Crabtree Baptist Church will observe its 14th anni versary with a varied program be ginning with Sunday School at 9 43. Rev. Pink McCracken of Lake Junaluska will revitw the history of the church and many of the old er people who have been associat ed with the church through many years will add their bit of color. Lunch will be served on the grounds picnic style at noon, and the afternoon will be filled with singing. The public is invited and choirs especially will be welcome. The reviyal at the Crabtree Bap tist Church came to a close last Sunday. Rev. Bill Hensley of Enka assisted Rev. Ruby, the pastor. The revival services at Finch er's Chapel will continue through Friday of this week with the Rev. F. R Davis of Mooresville assist ing his son. Rev. A. R. Davis, pas tor. The revival at Liberty Baptist Church is continuing with the Rev. llornbuckle ol Cherokee assisting the pastor, Rev. Dock Russell. Last Wednesday women of the adult Sunday School classes of the Crabtree Methodist Church enter tained the other classes and Iheir visitors with a fellowship supper. Visitors were: Mr. and Mrs. Nor man Freel. J. Handy Kirkpatrick and daughter. Mary Francis of Can ton, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Francis of Clyde, Mr. and Mrs. Furman Noland of Clyde, Rt, I. Tommy Norris of Waynesville, a . young minister who is a para- i plegic, victim of a swimming ac- , cident several years ago, speaking , from a wheelchair, brought a very inspirational message on "Our Be lief. Norris and his aide, TomiAy Hightower. i We believe our farmers have the armyworm invasion under control, but not before much damage had been done to the alfalfa and to bacco. Miss Ruth Ferguson, who is em ployed at the Eckard drug store of Asheville spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Ferguson, Joe Ferguson, son of Mr. and ; Mrs. C. T. Ferguson and Frank son of Mr. and Mrs. Weaver Cham bers. who have been spending a two-weeks furlough following their basic training have returned to Camp Gordon, Ga. for reassign ment. Miss Nancy Nolasd attended the commencement exercises a t Greensboro College, returning home her sister, Margaret, who was a student there. Mrs. Charles Ferguson has regis tered and is attending summer school in Canton, where she ex pects to get the extra units needed to finish her high school work in three years instead of the usual four. At the close of the six-weeks course, she will receive her diplo ma from the Crabtree-Iron Duff school. Mrs. Sallie Harks spent the week end with her son-in-law and daugh ter, Mr and Mrs. Claude Buchanan ?f near Charlotte. Bill Parks, Kenneth and Jerre accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Bill Hill of RatclifTe Govt to Morgan - ton on Sunday to visit Mrs. Hill's sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. Wdodroe Buchanan. . Glenn Palmer has returned frofii a business trip to Raleigh. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Kirkpat rick visited Mrs. Kirkpatrick's fath er. George W. Few, who is in the Allen-Bennett hospital in Greer S. C. with a broken leg and crush ed knee, caused by his horse fall ing. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Milne of Can-"t Ion were guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brown. Miss Frances Hombuekle of Cherokee was a weekend guest of Hilda Sanford at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Paul San ford. Mrs. C. B. McKeel of Charlotte and Mrs. Ruth Beaty of Wa> nes villi were Sunday guests of- Mr. and Mrs. Millard Ferguson. ? While in High Point, they visited the Baptist orphanage at Thomasville. Clyde iMan In Training Down At Fort Jackson Pvt. Floyd William Green, Clyde, has been assigned1 to Btry A 81st Airborne Field Artillery Battalion for basic training at; Fort Jackson. He Will spend the next eight1 weeks here learning the funda-; mentals of being a soldier. This includes class room lectures in such subjects as Military Courtesy and First Aid, and combat proce dures involving the use of the M-l rifle, which he will learn to fire on . ? various ranges. After eight weeks with the 101 si Airborne Infantry Division, thr trainee is given aoout 14 days leave He may return to Fort Jackson foi eilght more weeks, or he may bi assigned to one of the many Army schools. Basic training is required ol each new man coming mto the Army Fort Jackson is one of the Army largest training installations.
