Mr. Watkins and his wife, the
former Miss Betty Lee Phillips,
of Durham are here now for a visit
with the former's parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Dan Watkins, Sr. until June
14, when the younger Watkins will
enter the service.
Mr. and Mrs. Watkins, Sr. and
daughter, Charlotte, attended the
commencement program in Chapel
Hill.

children of Charlotte are at their
home at Lake Junaluska for the
summer. Dr. Bowles, who is pas
tor of Dillworth Methodist Church,
expects to join his family soon.

The church was decorated with

interspersed with branched can
delabra and altar vases filled with
; lilies and white gladioli and del

A program of wedding music
was presented by Mrs. Thomas B.
Suiter, organist, and Howard A.
Vaughn, vocalist, of High Point.
| The bride, given in marriage by
her father, wore a gown of Chan
tilly lace over satin. The fitted
bodices was designed with scallop
ed neckline and yoke of illusion
trimmed with seed pearls. Her
bouffant skirt extended into a
cathedral train and her veil of1
French illusion fell from a cap of
imported Brussels lace trimmed
with seed pearls. She carried a
bouquet of miniature white roses
and stephanotis centered with
, white cymbidium orchids.
Miss Martha Russell was her
1 sister's maid of honor. She wore a
waltz-length dress of seafoam
green crystalette with a matching
headdress trimmed with pearls.
She carried a cluster of miniature
! yellow roses.
Bridesmaids were Mrs. John
Quarrell, cousin of the bride of
, Toccoa, Ga? Mrs. A. M. Utley, Jr.
of High Point, sister of the bride
croom. Miss Vere Caviness of Lil
lington. and Miss Mary Ann Wal
drop of Greenville, N. C. Their
dresses were identical to that of
the maid of honor and they carried
mixed summer flowers in shades
from cream to deep yellow.
Ed Hardin, brother of the bride
groom. was best man and ushers
were John Russell, of Rock Mount,
brother of the bride, A. M. Utley,
Jr. of High Point, Jerry Cates of
Richmond, Va? Perry Keziah of
High Point. Gene Head of Bir
mingham, and Bill Grigg of Albe
marle.
After the wedding the parents
of the bride entertained with a re
ception in their home.
The mother of the bride wore a
dress of beige lace with avocado
vreen accessories. Her corsage was
of green cymbidium orchids. Mrs.
Hardin, mother of the bridegroom,
wore a dress of periwinkle blue
chiffon with white accessories and
her corsage was of pink roses.
The couple left for a wedding
'rip to Virginia Beach and Wil
''amsburg, Va. For traveling the
bride wore a powder blue Irish
'inen suit piped in satin with a
leweled collar. She wore white
accessories and an orchid corsage.
The bride is well-known here.
She has spent the summer with
her family at Lake Junaluska for
a number of years and was Queen
of Junaluska in 1952. She received
a degree from Duke University
Monday night.
Mr. Hardin has also spent the
summer months with his family at
Lake Junaluska for several years
and lived in Waynesville during his
boyhood while his father was pas
tor of the First Mcthodlsl Church
here. He received a degree in Law
from Duke University Monday
night and will be associated with
the law firm of White, Bradley.

MISS NANCY BAGBY. daughter of Mrs. John Coleman Bagby of
River Forest, 111., is engaged to Frank II. Rutland, son of Mr. and
Mrs. John W. Rutland of Lake Junaluska. No date has been set
for the wedding. Both Miss Bagby and Mr. Rutland are students
at Northwestern University.
