Dry Weather Is Hurting Crops In Lower Crabtree i By MBS. MILLARD FERGUSON Community Reporter The excessive dry weather is cutting fall pastures in our area seriously, and ripening the crops almost too fast to be taken care of by our farmers. The weekly singing school con tinues each Saturday night at the Crabtree Baptist church, with good attendance. The school is un der the leadership of Frank Kirk land of Balsam. the revival at Ball Creek Bap tist church continues this week with Rev. Riley Surret of Sandy Mush doing the preaching. The VV S C S of the Crabtree Methodist church met on Monday night at the home of Mrs. John Kirkpatrick. Mrs. Hugh Noland, president, presided and Mrs. Joe Smart had the program, including the devotional. The family of the late Allen and Caroline Rhea Noland held their first reunion on Sunday, Sept. 12 at the Crabtree Baptist church. Many friends and relatives attend ed. Hereafter, this will be an an nual affair, on the second Sunday in September. Mr. and Mrs, H. H. Holt arriv ed home last Saturday from Chica go, where they attended a Bible Conference. Enroute home they visited friends in Milwaukee and in Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Head who were called here by the death of Mr. Head's father, the late Henry Head of Hazelwood, have been visiting Mrs. Head's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Weaver Haney, and are leaving this week for their home in Lake Stephen^ Wash. Mrs. Burton McCroba who has been in Lima, Ohio, for several weeks, returned last week and is with her daughter, Mrs. John Kirkpatrick and Mr. Kirkpatrick. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Moody were hosts on Saturday evening to a picnic supper on the Riverside community center lawn, as a courtesy to their brother-in-law Lawrence Davis of Waynesville. who left on Monday for training in the armed forces. Mrs. Ballard Webb and Mrs. WWdrow Plemmons entertained with a household shower at the home of Mrs. Webb, honoring Mr. and Mrs, Gerald Webb, who will soon be leaving to reside in Cullowhee.
