SAM MEDFORD celebrated their sixty-first wed ding anniversary at an open house Sunday afternoon in the home of a daughter, Mrs. Paul McElroy, Sr., at Lake Junaluska^ The Medf^htds were married December 19, 1893. Their children are Mrs. llcElroy. Mrs. Samuel Wilson of W'ayncsville, Wiley Med ford of Canton, Dave Medford of California, William Medford of Ratcliffe Cove, and Clinton Medford of Southern Pines. Around thirty-five friends called during the open house. Mrs. McElroy was assisted by {Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. George Williamson, (Mountaineer Photo), ? 1 , Miss Stances Robeson will leave tomorrovt to spend the holidays in Newport/News, Va. as the guest of her brothers and sisters-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Edward Robeson ahd Mr. and Mrs. Carl Robeson. Perry, rector of Grace Episcopal Church, spoke at the December meeting of the j Waynesville Music Club, Thurs day afternoon in the dining room 1 of the First Methodist Church. Mr. Perry, who was introduced by Mrs. H. L. Baughman, spoke on "The Significance of Christ mas." Special music was presented by Miss Ray Ballard, who played two piano solos, "Musical Snuff Box," by I.iadow and "Dancing Doll," Paldini. Mrs. Roy Campbell presided and the group voted to support the request of the North Carolina Mental Hygiene Society for four additional Mental Hygiene groups when the Stale Legislature con venes in January. I'ians were announced for the annual Community Christmas Tree sponsored by the Club. Other civic organizations and individuals are ? contributing money and toys for ' the Tree, which will be held ' Thursday afternoon in the Court house. Girl Scouts will help dec orate the tree and fill stockings to ? be distributed to needy children. Mrs. Campbell reported on the progress of the recently organized Clothing Closet. ( A tea hour followed the meet ing and refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. R. C. Lane, Mrs. W. N. Thomas, Mrs. W. E. Carter, Mrs. M. L. Brenda Gail Stamcy of Clyde, :osin of the bridegroom, was flow er girl. Her dress was of red vel velteen. William Neal Caldwell of Clyde was his brother's best man and ushers were Thomas Lee Corzine jf Canton, cousin of the bride, and Richard Lanier Stamcy of Clyde, eousin of the bridegroom. Mrs. Corzine. mother of the' iride, wore a dress of royal blue erepe with black accessories and a white orchid corsage. The mother of the bridegroom wore teal blue with navy accessories and a white orchid corsage. For a wedding trip by car i through North Carolina and Ten nessee the bride wore a brown suit with fur trim and beige and brown accessories. Her corsage was the orchid detached from her Bible. A cake cutting was given for the wedding party and immediate fam ilies in the recreation hall of the J church Thursday night following the rehearsal. Mrs. Caldwell is a graduate of Clyde High School and attended Queen's College in Charlotte. She is now a student at Western Caro- i lina College and will be graduated . in March. She is a member of Al- ' pha Phi Sigma honorary fratern ity and of the Order of the East- ' ern Star. Mr. Caldwell is a graduate of Clyde High School and Dell School of Medical Technology in Ashe ville. He is now serving with the U. S. Medford are spending the Christmas season in St. Peters burg, Florida as guests of the lat ter's sister, Mrs. John D. Medford. Gypsy Gaddy Is Honored At Dinner Mr. and Mrs. Henry Gaddy were hosts of a dinner Thursday even ing in their home on East Street honoring their daughter, Gypsy Gaddy. Red candles and holly were used in decorating. Following dinner and games the guests were taken to the Christmas concert of the high school band and chorus.
