mum at Canton High and the out
standing words of the week are
study, review, and study some
more! Why? Exams started, Wed
nesday morning, and students who
aren't exempt know better than to
loaf this week.

were presented. A recent football
game between Wake Forest and
Duke was made even more Interest

actress Helen Hayes in an appeal
for the March of Dimes. The an
nual drive to collect money for the ?

Canton's Black Bears were very
successful again last week in both
basketball tilts The boys walked
off with another victory when'they

The girls lost their game by a few
points. that night, but bounced
back to defeat the Biltmore girls. ?
Friday night. The boys defeated
Biltmore. the leading team in the
Buncombe County Conference, and

The Rainbow girls held their j
second initiation ceremony, last
Wednesday night, at the Vlasonic'
Hall in Canton. This organization,
sponsored by the Eastern Stars, is
continually growing, and serves as
a meeting place for girls from
Canton. Waynesville, Bethel, Clyde,
and surrounding areas.

The highly successful Hamburger
Lunch Sale, a special event of the j
Hominy-Bcavcrdam-Thickety polio
workers last year will be repeated
again this year on January 28.
Plans for the lunch sale already
well under way are being carried
out under the direction of Mrs.
Ernest Branson. Over 100 lbs. ol
hamburger have boen donated by
Canton grocers to the energetic
cooks.

$250 Raised For
Polio By Singing
Group On Sunday
Over $250 was raised for the 1855
March of Dimes Drive at a singing
convention in the Meadow Grove
Baptist Church near Cruso last
Sunday afternoon. The songfest.
promoted by Yoder Clark and his
Hominy - Beaverdam - Thickety
workers for the benefit of the 1955
drive proved more successful than
expected.
Clark said that ^e and the Rev.
T. T. Heatherly of the Meadow
Grove Church were hardly able to
contain their excitement.
This $250 represents a pnrt of
some $1,100 already deposited at
the Haywood County Bank in Can
ton for the Canton - Bethel - Clyde
area drive.
Not yet complete, nor deposited
contributions from employees of
the Champion Paper and Fibre
Company appear to total more than
$4000 according to J. J. Martin w ho
heads the drive there. Mr. Martin
says some departments have con
tributed 100% to the polio fund.
