MARK PALMER Community Reporter The officers of the Ratcliffe Cove CDP met Tuesday night with Mrs. Mark Gallaway. Plans were made tor the year. Our ne.M meeting will be held at Elizabeth Chapel Meth odist Church. A group of community officers will tour this community Saturday. April 2 and take some pictures and talk tt> the farmers and homemak dr? on "What 1 PIgn for '55". Then on Saturday, September 3 the second tour will be made and more pictures will be taken. He explained the differ ence between ballads and hill-billy sons and also gave the history of some well-known ballads. He sang a number of ballads Including "Barbara Allen," "John Henry," and "On Top of Old Smoky He also sang several hill-billy songs, which he has recorded. Monday morning Mrs. Shook's fifth grade gave a program for the high school assembly. The chil* dren gave some scripture, poems, and songs. Kay Winfrey and Sharon Shook rendered two piano solos. Another special program was given Tuesday, sponsored by the senior class. Mrs. Cannon's sec ond and third grade presented an interesting program on, "A Child's Garden of Verse," by Robert Louis Stevenson. Poems, songs and a dance were included on the pro gram.
