Fla., after a short ill- ! ness. Medford, the son of Mr. and Mrs. j Larry Medford of Hazelwood, was i serving with the Navy in Cuba at j the time he was taken ill. He was a veteran of World War I II, having served with the Navy i in the Soutn Pacific. He re-enlisted about a year ago alter being em ployed in a cotton mill in Char ? lotte. He was a member of the ! Four Square Baptist Church. Survivors, in addition to the I parents, include three brothers. Lonnie and Roy Gene of the home and-Everett Medford of (the U. S. Navy; and two sisters, Mrs. Billy Gaddy of Norfolk. Va. and Mrs. ^James Suttles of Hendersonville. A cousin. Willard Medford .ac companied the parents to Belmont for the service. I ' ! George Muggins offi ciated and burial was in the church , cemetery. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. ' Lizzie C. Putnam; four sons, Fred W. of Franklin. William H. and General of Canton. Rt. 2. and Joe of Clvde, Rt. 1; two daughters, Mrs. Jack Coffey of Clyde. Rt. 1, and Mrs. John Caldwell of Canton, Rt. 2; a step-daughter, Mrs. Lee | Wright of Lake Stevens. Wash.: a brother. Fred, of Clyde. Rt. 1; and two half-sisters. Mrs. Emma Hen son of Cove Creek, and Mrs Lillie ; Wyatte of Waynesville, Rt. 1. Garrett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. j. BOONE PHILLIPS Boone Phillips, 50, died about 4:30 a.m. Tuesday in the hospital here after a long illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today in the Cove Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Carl Cook and the Rev. N. F. Byrd officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Earl and Al bert Phillips, Rbbert and Herman Franklin, Bob Rose and Willis Con ard. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Laura C. Phillips: a son. Jerry Dale of the home; five brothers, Walte'r of Lake Junaluska. Bob of Waynesville, Rt. 2, Kemp of Waynesville, Rt. 4, Arthur of Ml. Sterling, and Clyde of New Jersey; a sister, Mrs. Ollie Mae Rathbone of Waynesville, Rt. 2: eight half brothers. Houston Phillips of Bes semer City, Arley of Canton, and Claude, Roe. Glenn, Frank, Thom as and Charles, all of Waynesville; three half-sisters, Mrs. Bertha Han nah of Waynesville, ,Rt. 4, Mrs. Ethel Hall of Bessemer City, and Miss Sarah Phillips of Waynesville and the step-mother, Mrs. Mar garet Phillips of Waynesville. Garrett Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. MRS. LORA MANN Funeral services were held Wed nesday afternoon in the East Fork Baptist Church for Mrs. Lora Etta Henson Mann. 70, who died in the Haywood County hospital Monday afternoon following a long illness. The Rev. W. H. Pless, the Rev. W. B. Sprinkle, and the Rev. Oder Burnett officiated and burial was in the Gwvnn Cemetery. Pallbearers were Robert and J. T. Burress, Eugene, and Loy Hen son, Roy Trull, and Jerry Maitn. Mrs. Mann was a member of the East Fork Baptist Church for 60 years. Survivors are three sons. Roe of Canton RFD 1. Bry^-on of Ar nold, Md., and the Rev. Howard Mann of Candler RFD 3; one daughter. Miss Nannie Mann of the home; one brother, A. C.
