Mrs. Fred Gibson is u patient at St. Josphe's Hospital in Asheville. 4-H Club Meets Tiie Fines Creek Senior 4-H Club met last week, with president Ber-. nard Ferguson ^charge. The program incfuded the pres entation of a play and group sing ing. ' ; I Hard Rains Made Fines Creek Road A 'Sea Of Mud' By MRS. SAM FERGl'SON Community Reporter The recent heavy rains have niuiie the road in the lower end of Fines Creek almost impassable. The road is under construction, and work was discontinued last fall until this spring. This will probably b# the most appreciated link of highway in 'the county when completed. Bill Rogers who is stationed in Virginia spent the weekend with his wife. Mrs. Regina Ferguson Rogers and parents. Mr. and Mrs. Cauley Rogers on Fines Creek. s Mr. and Mrs. Ray Seay and daughter. Kathy Jo spent the week end in Winston-Salem visiting Mrs. Srny's sister. Mrs. Richard How ell. Mrs. Hov Rogers is now a patient at Haywood hospital. Mrs. Howell is staying with her father while hei mother is Sick. She is the form er Mary Dean Rogers. ' * Fines Creek Junior 4-H girls played Bethel team and beat them MoYiday at Canton. They play again Firday at Canton with Canton. Boys' 4-lf team played Tuesday and got beat. Community tournament is being played this we*k at Fines Creek. I Thickety CDP To Meet April 14th The April mooting of the Thick ety CDP scheduled for April 7, has been postponed until Ap-il 14th. The WMU of Oak Grove Baptist Church held the regular meeting Thursday night at the home of Mrs. .Howard Dotfo,' with Mrs. Ray Whitted and Mrs. Hugh Early Jr co-liostesses. Seventeen members were-present. Mrs. Ralnh Nix was in charge of the program, which explained the 1 Cocperative Program of the Church. Those taking part were, Mrs. Lloyd Parham. Sr., Mrs. Troy Ford, Mrs. Early, Mrs. S. B. Mc ; Creary, Mrs. Billy Rector, Mrs. Max Yarborough, Mrs. Early and Mrs. Jim Sorrells. A social hour was enjoyed fol ' lowing the prograrp, and tempting refreshments were served by the ! hostesses. A Fellowship supper meeting has been announced for the Rockwood Church Saturday at 6 p.m. Every one is invited to bring supper^ and enjoy an evening of fellowship to gether. Andy Woody has returned from Texas, was taken ill recently and is now a patient at the Haywood hos pital. ? r; .?r-'? ; r , Clyde Seniors Working Hard On Their Play By VIOLET LTNDSEY The seniors are practicing two and three periods a day on the play, "Aunt Abby Answers an Ad." which will be presented April 1. The cast is composed of Jo An na McCracken, Judy Pressley, Sue Limbo, Bill Caldwell, Ronnie Dot sor, John Medford, Violet Lindsey, Bonnie Morgan, and Dan McCrack ! en. a Business College, and has ac cepted a position in Gastonia. Miss Rowena Robinson and a college mate at Brevard College, were overnight guests of her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Robinson : the latter part of the week. Mrs. Mary Robinson was hostess ' for the regular' meeting of the Wesleyan Service Guild Thursday | evening. Mrs. Charles Jacobs Jr., | presided, and also led the program on "Newcomers to our Commun- j ; ity". Miss Melba Willis was named as a delegate to the United Nations 1 Study Tour. The telephone rang at the sheriffs of fice late at night. "In about half an hour," the caller said, "another fellow and I are going to hold up the Avon Inn oui on Adams Road." Deputies rushed to the scene and set up an ambush. A short time later two men walked into the lob by. drew guns and announced "This is a holdup." When officers stepped out of hid ing places, the gunmen meekly surrendered. One of the men ad mitted making the phone call but could give no reason why he did it. However, police said, both men had been drinking heavily. The two were held on charges of armed robbery. il.v. to visit relatives here for a few days. Mrs. Henry Calhoun was dis rharped from the Haywood County Hospital on Saturday and is re cuperating at the home of a sister, Mrs. Lewis llinkle in Canton, fol lowing major surgery. Mrs. Ira Hiehtower has return ed from the Ha\ wood County Hos pital and is d^ing nicely. Mrs. Roy Caldwell has been a patient at the HaywoOd County Hospital the past two weeks for treatment and operation and is ; progressing satisfactorily. % i , Mrs. Delmar Rogers underwent major surgery on last Thursday at the Haywood County Hospital and is doing very well. The Riverside W.M.U. met Tues day with Mrs. Thomas Erwin as hostess. Mrs. Erwin as president also presided over the meeting. .Mrs. Roy Edwards, program chairman, was in charg* of the study period which was on "The Cooperative Program Speaks For Itself " Discussions were given by Mrs. T. E. Erwin, Mrs. James Met calf. Mrs. J. Howard Reece. with a summary given by Mrs. Metcalf and Mrs. Edwards. A solo, "Jesus Shall Reign," was rendered by Mrs. J. E. Bur nett. The program for the next meet ing was given out by Mrs. Ed wards and the hostess served re freshments. The next meeting will be held on April 19 with Mrs. J. Edgar Burnett as hostess. Beaverdam PTA To Give Fashion Show March 31 A spring fashion and talent show will be presented by the Beaverdani Sehool ~PTA at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. March 31, in the school auditorium. To be featured in the fashion show will be proper clothing for casual, sports, beach, school, and church wear and for weddings.
