Strolling along the lower East

should perhaps say depressed?by
the bums on the Bowery, the slums
surrounding it, and the general lit

of town. The old elevated railroad
which darkens the street and shud

overhead and drown out the
sounds of human activity, adds to
the somberness of the section. But
there is a bright side. Some pretty
good people came from here. One
of the friendliest fellows I've met,
Jimmy Duranty, is one. Also A1

and never forgot it even after they
reached the heights of fame.
