District FFA Will Hold Rally In Asheville Soon Nearly a thousand Future Farm ers of American and vocational ag riculture teachers from 28 Western North Carolina counties will as semble in Asheville on May 13th and 14th for a giant rally. This marks the first time such a district gathering of agricultural students has been held in North Carolina. In charge will be Howard T. Gryder, District Supervisor of Ag ricultural Education for the State Department of Public Instruction. An outstanding feature of the rally will be a performance by a 40 piece brass band made up of members from as many high schools over Western North Cans tine. Directing this band will be Charles Isley, band director of the Waynesvllle High School. On the same program with the band in the Asheville City Auditorium will be a 78 voice male chorus from the various schools, under the direction ?f Ned Hawks, agftcultural teacher Df the Sylva High School. The future farmers, represent ing 98 high schools, will compete in various contests, including dairy lodging, beef cattle judging, pub lic speaking and parliamentary procedure contests. The winners ?f these events will compete in statewide contest flnals in Raleigh this summer. Winners of the various events will be honored at a luncheon at the City Auditorium on May, 14th.
